So, Does this Crap only happen in Texas?

or does it happen in other states as well...... In the last 30 days I have been hit with 32oz Big Gulps, bags of half eaten burgers, cups of hot coffee, and tonight a cup full of piss (or at least that's what I think it was).

The first 2 incidents happened during the day, and they approached from behind me, threw the Big Gulps and laughed and had a good time at my expense. Last week on my night ride I got a hot cup of coffee thrown on me by a passing car, and then tonight on my night ride a warm cup of piss........

I just dont get this, for 20 yrs I never had one single incident other that the occasional horn or foul word. Am I the only one? How about you other night riders? What say you?

Why is this topic in Long Distance? Shouldn't it be in Death and Destruction (A&S)?

It happens other places too, a video camera is a must. When you catch them on camera, please press charges.

Never happened to me (so far), but I understand that it has happened her in North Carolina. But the urine container I heard about was much larger than "a cup".

Why would anyone go to "Death and Destruction (A & S)" ?
Last time I went there, probably 4 or 5 years ago, anything over 10-mph (16-kph) was deemed unsafe.

The "conversation" is more intelligent over here (usually).
    Enjoy the ride.

I put it here cause this is the only sub-forum I frequent. If I was wrong I apologize. Please feel free to move it.

My thoughts were since we long distance riders spend more time riding than the average we would be exposed to this kind of behavior more.

Sorry to hear it, HH. I don`t know what to tell you because (knock wood) I`ve never had anything thrown at me, and can count on one hand the times when I know or suspect people have deliberately tried to do evil to me beyond the occasional scream or horn blast. I`m grateful for my luck so far, and if nothing else, reading about all the bad things I miss out on keeps things in perspective every time I get a close call by an unintentionally bad driver. I hope it`s just a fluke for you, and the relative peace of your previous 20 years soon returns.

I hear ya. I post a lot of questions on the mtbr Commuter subforum just because it feels like home even when I know they would be much more appropriate elsewhere. If anybody objected, I`d stop doing that, though.

I've never had anything thrown at me. I ride almost exclusively in rural areas though. People are nicer out here I guess.
It doesn't get harder, you just go slower.

I've had this happen a couple times up in PA, both were big gulps/slurpee type drinks and luckily they both had miserable aim. Keeps me on my toes though, knowing there are those sorts of people out there. Never heard of piss though, that's a new one.

Big city??? - Not happening around here yet...

    I dread the day...

In Texas this is a Second Degree Felony of Aggravated Assault - If injured on the road then its a First Degree Felony of Aggravated Assault - These are tough measures for a stupid laugh/prank if caught...

    That sucks, Hairy Hands!

Back in high school cross-country, we used to pass mysteriously-warm Gatorade bottles up to the front of the bus to gross out the girls, but they never left the bus...

Pretty much sums it up. I learned a long time ago to stay out of that zoo. You have a better shot of an intelligent discussion in the 41. Or on any given political forum anywhere online.

I've never had anything thrown at me, but if I did I would immediately pull over and call the mounties. It's assault, after all - and battery if they hit you! Or something like that, I'm not a lawyer...

Back when I lived in Phoenix, I was about the only bike in the suburbs. I've had all sorts of verbal and horn-honking abuse, a few nasty things thrown at me, but the worst was a full gallon jug of water from a car passing at about 55mph. It missed my face by about an inch. If it had contacted me, I probably would not be posting right now.

Then I moved to Portland, and all I get are waves and nods.

One time I was going home really late and had a raw egg thrown at me a couple of blocks away from my apartment. It was really cold, and I thought it was a snowball at first. The egg froze onto my jacket pretty quickly and it wasn't until I got inside and it melted that I realized it was egg. That was in Somerville, MA. I've never had anything else thrown at me though, even in areas where I thought it might be an issue.

I have not noticed any increase in hostility lately. Around town I'd say people are becoming more accustomed to cyclists on the road, as we have more commuters than ever.

The most common reaction I get on overnight rides is surprise and amazement, with an occasional "y'all are crazy". I do try to plan my ride to avoid urban areas when the bars are closing.
    What is bicycle touring?

Must be a Houston thing. Only thing I've had thrown at me was a beer bottle from a guy whose aim indicated that he must have already emptied several of them.

I think the change in weather is bring out the stupid in people after a cold eternal winter.

Warm brings corn. Corn brings whiskey. Whiskey makes to drivers homicidal maniacs.

I've had two drinks thrown at me in San Diego County. One was in urban Carlsbad and it hit the bike. The other was in rural Pine Valley and missed me by at least 25 yards.

I understand from my family in Texas that an armed society is a polite society. From that I think the only advice I can provide is to use your 2nd Amendment Right to a handlebar mounted 50 caliber machine ***. That will teach them rednecks. (Snark implied )
