Anyone doing the Bellingham 300K on Saturday?
I'm planning on doing SIR's 300K out of Bellingham on Saturday, curious if any of you were doing it too, or have done it in the past. It's a nice little jaunt from B'ham up to Artist Point (a mere 5,000 foot gain in elevation, so not so bad, right? Right...) and back down, then some extra riding around for good measure, because climbing Mt Baker and coming back would only have made it a 200K.
Anyway, it'll be my first actual brevet--I've done some permanents, and some long rides (1-day STP, e.g.), and Cayuse Pass last summer, so I'm trying to tell myself that it's just putting together a lot of things I've done before. But if anyone has thoughts about the ride, I'm all ears.
The ride info if you're curious:

Looks like a nice ride.
300k was a pretty important milestone for me. I still remember the moment on my first 300k when I realized I could ride as far as I wanted if I just took care of myself.

It's the riding around after which could become a problem. I cap my effort on climbs on rides 300k and longer, so decide on what your cap is going to be before you get there. The little hill before the climb is steeper than the climb, which is just beautiful. I've descended that sucker in sleet, so you're going to have a great ride! I hope the road is open all the way to Artist Point. Don't forget your clear lenses.

Wow! What a ride! I was having a great day on my bike, feeling about as strong as I ever have. It was a good thing too, as that was one tough ride... We got fabulous weather, and the ride organizer, Dan Turner, was a champion. He managed to be everywhere--sent us off with good cheer, drove by us later and encouraged us on, had a great spread for us up at the top of Artist Point, stopped by one of the open controls to dispense smiles, and greeted us at the end with burgers and brats and beer. It was a beautiful day, some really nice low-traffic roads, and showed all the variety of the PacNW, from mountains to water. If you're in the area next time it's run, I definitely recommend this brevet.
And today, there is no sign of the immense amount of energy I had yesterday...
