Seagull Century 2013
My wife and I completed the Seagull Century in Salisbury MD. this past weekend. It was her first full century and I challenged it on my Single Speed bike. The route and terrain is virtually flat so it was a great ride. This ride takes you from Salisbury out to Assateague Island and back. Huge ride with almost 8,000 riders from what I've heard. Here are a couple of pics. We will probably make this a yearly ride.

Congratulations on getting her out and finishing a century.
That was the first century I did, nice and flat but the winds can be a pain.
Are there still two routes for that ride due to the number of riders?

There are two century routes, Assateague and Snow Hill. And a metric route. Very, very few people do the Snow Hill century. I suspect the metric century is much of the Snow Hill century route (which would mean the extra effort to support the second century route is fairly minimal).

The Assateague route seemed to be the popular choice for the majority of riders. Very fun and not as crowded on the road as I thought it would be. She did a great job even in those winds during the last 20 miles or so.

Congrats! What a great way to spend the day together with your wife. Sounds like you all had a lot of fun!
I was there, too. My first time, also. What a great time and perfect weather! I did the Assateague course with my friend Dewey.
I hope to go back and do the Snow Hill route next year. Here's Assateague Island. Did you all see any of the small, wild, horses they have there? I didn't see any around.

It was a great ride. I didn't see any horses. I think they stay mostly in the lower traffic areas. I did see a pile of leftovers from them though.

This year was my 6th. It was my first century too and is so fun that it's become a tradition with me/several friends. I always do the Assateague route and have only missed one year due to injury. One year the wife joined me and we did the Metric, it was a cold, messy day and I didn't feel too bad skipping the full course. I completed this year's with a ride time of 5:37 but fought cramps starting at mile 80. Even if I'm hurting and cursing the ride (swearing not to put myself through it again), I start planning for next year's the following day.

I did the first 62 down to the beach in 3.5 hours, but it took me 3.0 hours to do the next 38 back to the college...this was my 10th one and not my best...the wind and heat on the return trip got to me....I am 65 and plan on doing better next year...my best time is 5hrs 50 minutes but I plan to beat it by training more...it is a great ride...
