British woman becomes first to cycle to South Pole
Maria Leijerstam, a British adventurer who prepared for four years, including training at times on an empty stomach to teach her body to become more efficient, became the first person to cycle to the South Pole.

An impressive ride for sure. Still wondering how the other two on their way to the South Pole will end up doing with a route of I think 300ish miles longer. It has been a fun year to follow some impressive rides.

Yeah me too. Being nether a female or a recumbent cyclist..... I do relate more to the other two groups (which are both standard style bikes and men) more. But I was very impressed with Maria Leijerstam's adventure as well. Never enough cycling news!

These South Pole expeditions have been exciting as well. I am especially excited about seeing how Daniel Burton does. I am still excited knowing I built his replacement rear wheel that he will be picking up at I believe his next gear drop. His freehub blew and for some reason he did not bring any spare wheel parts to the South Pole so his team had us build up a replacement for him about a week ago. Still not sure why he did not at least bring some spare hub parts but it does help having DHL as a sponsor....

And I don't like to ride when there's frost on the grass in my front yard, that's more than impressive!
Anyone see the Top Gear where they were the first to drive to the North Pole? Has anyone cycled that yet?

Both are without a doubt great athletes. I am guessing she simply did a better job advertising herself. Daniels preparation seemed to be behind from the very begining and he probably did not have the time to get word out as well as he would have hoped.
