Favorite recovery foods?

Since it's now the time of year when I am pretty much always either recovering from something or doing something that I'll need to recover from afterward, I bet it's that time of year for a lot of y'all, too. Got any favorites? What do you crave after long rides?

For me, it's often beer (IPA!!), sausage, eggs, steak, olives, watermelon, any fruit that isn't a banana, and any other tasty food that you can't eat out of a handlebar bag or buy in a convenience store. Fresh homegrown tomatoes with unfiltered olive oil and salt and pepper.

How 'bout you?

I follow a processed-free diet (very similar to paleo) and I have found that hard-boiled eggs and fresh fruit to be my go-to foods.

Same here, following paleo. My post ride is bananas, strawberries, protein shake, etc.

Fresh vegetables (especially cucumbers and avocados) and something spicy. The latter I think is partly because, if everything goes well, I end a little dehydrated but not enough to actually like drinking plain water; spicy food makes me guzzle enough to get everything back in order. I don't tend to like beer after rides, but once I'm rehydrated a margarita goes down nicely, and tacos often have the right balance of protein and fresh vegetables. Or a curry of some sort.

+1 on the pizza. Recovery is largely psychological, you know.

Recently, milkshakes. Basically like chocolate milk --protein, fat, some carbs--but tastier and cooler on a warm August day. While beer tastes great, it's basically just empty calories. So while it may help restore glycogen stores, it doesn't provide any protein to repair muscle damage.

Look forward to seeing you in a few weeks for the Appalachian Adventure 1000km. You riding fixie?

A banana and a cold Lagunitas IPA. Then I'll follow it up with dinner centered around 6oz lean protein/veg/salad.
