Chamois Buttr' (Paceline Products) seems meant as a lubricant and Lantiseptic seems more of a treatment for "diaper dermatitis".
I know there are many unadvertised uses for products that are found by trial & error and then sort of passed around through the grapevine & forums (one of the most well known, Skin So Soft, as an insect repellent).
Has anyone had any success with Lantiseptic as a lubricant to be used during the ride? Or is it mostly used for after the ride, say when one is catching a few hours sleep on a brevet?
One PBP rider said he used Lantiseptic for a foot condition while he caught a fews hours sleep.
Please limit your comments to just these two products and only if you have used one or the other. I don't need more choices - Bag Balm, Nutz, Udder Cream, Joey's Magic Lotion, nothing, etc.

I use Chamais Butt'r at the beginning of a ride and I carry some packs around with me. I carry some Lantiseptic in case something goes wrong. Chamois cream does nothing for saddle sores that have already formed, in my experience anyway. Last 200k I did I went with a dry chamois and nothing bad happened, which is kinda funny given how much trouble I had earlier in the year

skiffrun - that assumes Lantiseptic as a lubrucant. It doesn't speak to how it compares to Chamois Buttr'. And nowadays I imagine the image would be of the Mesiah.

I never really thought about the function of what chamois cream does, I just know it prevents chafing. I have good luck with it for the most part. There is a reason why they are all basically the same stuff, it has been proven to work.

chamois cream apparently has alcohol in it, so putting it on sensitive skin is not a good idea. Strangely, the same is true of first aid creams, learned that to my chagrin when I tried to treat saddle sores on this year's 300k. I'm sure Lantiseptic works as a substitute for chamois cream, but it seems like too much when something a lot less intrusive will work. It is really sticky, which may be why it's so successful as an on-road treatment for saddle sores because you don't want relative motion between the shorts and skin at that point. I assume that lantiseptic is pretty close in formulation with zinc diaper rash creams, I have used that with success for treating saddle sores after a ride or at overnight stops

I recently encountered my first cycling mega boil. I used "Brave Soldier" Amazon.com: Brave Soldier Antiseptic Healing Ointment 1 oz: Sports & Outdoors. Once it broke this did the trick. I had to stop riding for three days to allow the wound to heal but it has completely cleared. I use Chamois Butter and also put an extra amount over the area where the boil occurred. So far so good.

Lantiseptic is really, really sticky. To use enough that it acts a bit like a lubricant, you have to use so much that it oozes through your shorts.

Chamois Butt'r is designed to be a lubricant.

Like Unterhausen I use Chamois Butt'r until something goes wrong and then I'll use some Lantiseptic. I did use Lantiseptic on my feet during PBP '07 when I was developing a case of trenchfoot. And I've used it on my hands on long rainy days when my hands are so wet they get wrinkly and painful.

I used Lantiseptic this week on a ride. It was so sticky I couldn't even move my butt around in my shorts.
I will stick with Chamois Buttr' as my lubricant of choice, and maybe carry a small tin of Lantiseptic in case a problem arises.

the buy-in on that stuff is rather expensive, seems like the minimum price for packets is over $100

For a century or shorter ride, I use Chamois Buttr. For a double century, I have been starting with Chamios Buttr and using a packet of Lantiseptic later in the ride if the sit bones are feeling raw. For 2 doubles this year (Spring Solvang and Hemet) the Chamios Buttr was fine ( I also carry individual Chamios Buttr packets), but on the Eastern Sierra and Grand Tour Highland doubles I needed the Lantiseptic later in the ride. Friends that I ride these with start with the Lantiseptic. It is thicker.
