Hilly Century this Sunday--this week schedule?

Hi All,

I'm doing a century this Sun with 7,400' of elevation. I've been training hard for the last 2 months. My July total was 540 miles & 30,000' of elevation at 17.6 MPH ave. So far in August 464 miles & 27K of elevation at 17.8.

My last ride was Sat 8/23 (32 miles, 1,400') and I did 9,300' (136 miles) total for last week. My question is what should I do this week as far as tapering down?

thanks
Brent

If you really want to do well, don't do anything too tough this week. Last year I was using the 200km rides I was doing as training so I didn't change anything. They are short enough that worked for me.

Take it easy this week, take Thursday and Friday either completely off or very easy/short rides. I would ride Tues/Wed if you normally do.

You can't gain any fitness at this point, you can only make yourself tired. You already did the work, you are ready. Just don't go out too hard on Saturday - ride "too easy" for the first 2 hours, then do whatever you want. Enjoy your ride!

thanks for the advice. After 2 months of training there's now an 80% chance of rain/t-storms on Sunday.

You will ride faster. Rain cools you down.

All, I did my ride today. 103 miles 7,300' of elevation in 6 1/2 hours. Rained for a total of about 5 hours with some major downpours. Had to take it slower on descents due to the water on road. Gotta love the but rashes due to water logged shorts all ride.

Thanks for all the advice as I had enough energy to finish the century!!

Congratulations. That is some strong riding especially with 7300 feet of climbing.
