Tim Feldman's PBP planning spreadsheet - questions
Downloaded it from RUSA 2011 PBP webpage and have been fiddling with it. It seems very powerful and thorough.
I have a few questions.
Does anyone know how I can get in touch with Tim? (I have no social media accounts - Facebook, Linkedl,n, mySpace, etc.)
Many thanks -

Hmm - thanks. Too bad. His spreadsheet really seems to be well thought out. Except for one small glitch that I can't seem to get around.

Spreadsheets - PBP 2011 USA
It is the planner.r6 version.
I can't get the start time (C3) and the depart time (P6 and R6) to synch.
I've tried adjusting the references and formulas and I can make it work by fooling the start time but I don't think this is what the author had in mind. I don't quite get how the start time, depart time, and control opening time are supposed to relate.

p6 and r6 are wrong. r6 should be c3 and T6 should be c3+1/24
There should be more control over C3, there is only one time for 80, 84, and 90 hour starts. You should be able to add time in increments of 15 minutes, iirc that's how they started us. I thought they always let the 90 hour start out in groups.
It's also missing the Saint-Nicholas-du-Pelem "apocalypse now" non-controle controle after loudiac, which does take some time to get through because they make you walk your bike through the stadium. I might be able to make my way through some of those controles in 30 minutes, but I never managed to do that in 2011 because I was relying on them for food. If you eat at a controle, I can't imagine getting through in much less than an hour, but I wasn't really keeping track. The early stops take forever to find a place to park your bike, and Loudiac has that same problem the first time through.

Thanks for that.
C3 can be controlled. One has to change the 5 in the C3 IF statement, C2=84,40777+(5/24). A 5:30 start would be 5.5/24.

yeah, obviously that can be done, but I figured that messed it up too much
I'll have to try to import that onto my phone. It seems like it's applicable to any 1200 with a little work

Push a button on the phone for the start and it automatically populates the open/close times.
Having put in a target finish time (and planned stops and off-bike times) the app will also tell you how you are on pace, and what your new avg speed must be to hit the target time.
The app has the gps course profile and it knows from history how fast you typically go up hills of slope x, y, z, etc. Those speeds are plugged into the remaining course, so you are left with a new avg speed for the flats and the descents.
Your helmet includes a detachable sleep monitor strap. Your phone will wake you up after 90 mins of rem sleep, or 2 hours, whichever comes first.

I like Nick's idea of having slips of paper with the closing times already calculated for every conceivable start time, but I'd no doubt lose the right one and be lost again
