Cycling survey for a well-known brand...
Hey everyone! Me and my team are working on re-designing a well-known cycling company's website and need some feedback from cyclists. We're currently in the research phase and would really appreciate it if members on here would take our short, easy survey. It's completely anonymous and we don't need any personal information - just answers to some of our research questions so we can design a better, more user-friendly site that meets the needs of cyclists. Any and all help is greatly appreciated!
You can find the survey here (it's a Google Doc form): goo.gl/forms/H9pEUgLATHPBhn9C3
Thanks so much for your time,
- John

Your survey assumes people own/use a single bike. Many people here have multiple bikes that they ride. Your survey would be better if you focused perhaps on only the last new bike someone purchased, or the one bike they use most often, etc.

On the survey, radio buttons for the type of bike one owns?
What about all of the above?
A few comments general. I detest inefficient websites. Pretty movies are nice, but not when they crash my computer. For me, I'd like to get into the site, get to the specs page, maybe see a few photos, and leave.
"Buy Online" is nice, especially for smaller vendors. There are frequently products that I encounter that have pretty websites, but no way to actually find or purchase the product, anywhere.
I never buy new complete bikes myself. Although, it is good to see reference pages if someone pops up asking about a specific bike. I will, however, buy new parts and components.
I do like to see very detailed specs. What is an "Ultegra Group"? In particular, cranks, chainrings, wheels, spokes, hubs, hub bearings, etc. Stuff that is often fudged on.
I also do a lot of utility cycling. Personally, I'm generally happy with a backpack. But, I don't want to strain my eyes looking at photos that may or may not be accurate to try to figure out things like water bottle bosses, and fender and rack mount points (if it has them).
Weight is important. Please list it.
Also, perhaps a tire size rating. Say a range, 700c, 25mm to 35mm (with or without fenders?)
Actually, that brings up another point. You need an "accessory page" with stuff that has been tested for a specific bike (and a buy-it-now option). So, click to buy a rack that fits, or a tire that fits. There is a lot of money in accessories.

@ fietsbob - sorry, there aren't any prizes. Just know that you're feedback is going into the design of a top cycling brand.
@CliffordK - GREAT feedback!!! We've been doing some competitive analysis and we see what you mean. Feedback like yours is super informative and very helpful. We don't want to just make assumptions and design a site based on our knowledge of cycling as that defeats the purpose. We want this valuable feedback from avid cyclists to create a better, more user-centered design with information that user's need and want to see.

@Kevindale - Thanks for the feedback. We don't want to assume so I updated the survey question based on your response.
@dabac - Thank you for your feedback. I'm not sure why it's not working for you. If anyone else is having the same problem, please let me know. I copied and pasted the link in my browser (Chrome) and the survey opened. Sorry for any inconvenience. And thanks for the +1...updated the survey based on everyone's feedback.

This thread is probably just a sophisticated spam anyway. Come do our survey, buy our expensive brand.

At the end there was a place to put in an e-mail address. While I would be willing to give input, and perhaps even view a website, I declined to give out my e-mail. I can be contacted here.

Yep. I reported this to the mods, plus the fact that the thread should go in the Survey and Consumer Feedback section. Another report won't hurt.

Terrible survey. Almost all the answers assumed people had one bike and did one type of riding. News Flash: the folks with more bikes need more parts and are mor eused to spending money on bikes and aprts, and on bikes and parts they don't really need.
Simple psychology: If all the questiosn are pahrased "Which one?" you reinforce one bike, one style, and pee off the people with more---your target customers.
if all your questions are worded "How many of these apply?" you reinforce the idea that people buy lots of bikes for lots of types of riding. People who thought one bike was enough now start thinking n+1, and people ***** live by n+1 feel validated.
Every time I see a poorly done poll by someones hired to "upgrade" a website I am happy I will probably never go to that site anyway.
Oh, ans as CliffordK says ALWAYS list weight. of parts, of bikes, of everything you sell. Serious cyclists will probably be at least interested in passing, and a lot of riders will pay more for less weight. Nothing pees me off like a site telling em in paragraphs of hyoperbolic prose how great everything is, but won't post an actual part weight. I simply go elsewhere.

Will you guys please click the report button. The mods should have already moved this and the duplicate to the Survey section. Maybe someone can get their attention.

I have many bikes. Most of the answers were about a single bike. Which one should I chose to base the answer on?
The question "If purchased online, did you get all the information you needed about the bicycle and brand? *" is a required question, but if the buyer did not purchase online, then any answer is invalid.
This is a horribly designed survey. I would worry that this "well-known cycling company" will sue you for not fulfilling your contract if you don't improve it. Good that you are testing it on curmudgeons like us, but this was so amateurish that I wonder if you can ever understand how to do a proper survey. Try substituting "shirt" for "bike" as a test and you will see what I mean,
Sorry for the harshness, but geez!

Maybe I wasn't looking for it, but I didn't see any links to the website or brand.

All the well-known brands I love were discontinued or went to China years ago.
Well, there IS Peugeot.

When you get that new website going, I hope you have someone with better English skills write the copy than whomever wrote that survey description. I counted no less than four errors without even trying. If you are trying to look professional you need to try harder. You might even get more people to take your survey.

I'm raising a family of them myself, and not a new one in the bunch.
