Introduction: Jimmy-Fred

Hi everyone - long time no talk.

I've been busy pursuing a long winding descent, down from my racing highs, to Fredberry, RFD. My cycling had been an issue in a troubled marriage, and when that combined with injuries and extreme demands at work, I chose to back-burner training ad racing until I can once again give it what it deserves. My riding has been extremely sporadic: I've reached the point now where I look behind me to see if anyone will be passing me on my pseudo-training rides. Hasn't happened yet, but... This 'devolution' has been so hard, emotionally, that I haven't been able to bring myself here to write about it.

But now, here I am.

I'm not going to try to catch up on threads - just going to pick back up from here, and use you all like domestiques to get me back up the fitness climb. First step is to get enough fitness to where I can actually train!

So hi. My names is James, and I'm a Fred.

Hi James. Welcome............................back.

1. You're not a Fred. In fact, I believe the word is somewhat verboten now.

2. If you're not having fun, then you're doing it wrong.

3. That is all..............unless I forgot something.

A warm welcome back. You've been missed. I'm sorry to hear life has gotten in the way, but....it can.

And, everything Nacler said, all the bullet points.

Missed you, Jim...

Jed works for me.

Oh, and I've been wanting to ask: How about our local boy Marcotte? Holds both the road race and the crit jersey right now! Well deserved. His real strength is to be able to go hard for hours, and then crank out some truly ridiculous power. 1,275 watts to get his gap, and still over 1,000 holding it to the line.

I just saw this. I'm living in Fred land too. ShovelFred. Today I graduated to a couple of 65 year old Cat5's. My advice is the one I'm taking. Just enjoy riding your bike whenever you can.

Welcome back. I'm in a similar position, lost the drive, and hoping to at least get some basic fitness.

Astaire, Flintstone, Gwynne, Rogers. Jones (Scooby Doo) is pretty good company to keep imho. Git out there and ride! Best wishes to getting the fire burning again.

LOL --- cycling being an isssue in a troubled marriage sounds familiar.

I was in a committed relationship with a girlfriend - we were looking at homes together, etc. ---

She dropped the hammer on me to spend less time on cycling and cycling related activities or it was over (I was a trackie, so i spent 2 hours in the gym after work, plus long rides before work - along with travelling and racing on the weekend)

--- To coin the phrase -- "I'm sure gonna miss her" would not be the exact right term, as it was a stressful time and i ultimately said enough is enough and we parted ways somewhat amicably

Trying to train 20 hours a week , plus a full time job plus a relationship is tough
