Good call, HP. I've been at this a while and I'd hesitate to go on a climbing ride with you lot unless I knew I was in good shape. It's no fun being in over your head.

@rapwithtom, I had a BF poster from Seattle give me advice once on getting around the constraint of lack of water on a ride. He suggested I carry a portable water filter in my jersey pocket so that I could just filter water from a stream mid-ride. Lol. A stream. What's that? When I say "no water" I don't mean no potable water (or brewpubs). I mean zip, nada, zilch. Not even a dewdrop.

Cute story but it does address the point that other than taking the TT bike to Hilton Head last summer, I've never ridden outside of California. My head is full of California logistical problems like heat & sun & lack of water/facilities. Max elevation I've ridden at is 9000ish feet. I have to remember to worry about cold and thunderstorms and real altitude. And who knows what else?

The track. I would be totally up for this if everyone else is interested, it would be a cool opportunity. However, I also could probably avail myself of a similar opportunity locally, so if there's not general interest, I'm ok with skipping it. I even already have a Tshirt from the Boulder Velodrome, one of my friends brought it back from her vacation.

I'd like to suggest you carry around an espresso machine. Lord knows what might happen if we found ourselves stranded 50 miles from the nearest joe...

Pencil me in for the Denver-area shenanigans.Might be able to sneak up during the week for climbing shenanigans as well. We now have a few months to get to know each other. Ha.

Really?

We could test that. Have Mr. HP get drunk, strap on a pistol, go down to your local 7-11 at 4 AM, try to by beer, ask to play video poker, then inquire as to the local house of ill repute. In NV he'd have a compliment on his firearm, a six pack, tokens, and a map in his pocket in 5 minutes. In CA he'd be taking one of those Nick Nolte pics holding up a number.

Our legislature meets 3 months every two years. We store alien landing craft and have a nuclear test site. We have Paris, New York and Egypt all in one city. Strip clubs give you discounts if you have a local driver's license (it was a bachelor party, and we all behaved). We have a law BANNING laws that make public intoxication an offense. Our Native Americans fought the US army to a standstill and never signed a treaty. And we're further west than LA. We got Burning Man.

CA spent millions and failed on an open and shut case, so WE locked up OJ.

And we have interesting "speed bumps"

Just like California...sheesh

We have Indian casinos, open carry, tornadoes, earthquakes, ice storms and 3.2 beer (unless you buy it at room temp from the liquor store.)

Other than that, I've got nothing.

The traffic isn't too bad though.

It's also where the WIND comes sweeping down the plain. And today was up to 40mph gusts.

@Hermes That's right. BOOMER SOONER and Thunder UP!

We have Shannon Miller, Brad Pitt and Chuck Norris to name a few more.

I do love it here, it's home and has some really down to earth friendly people (even if our government is backward.) I just had to throw in some humor.

Colorado racing calendar is in flux around this week now.

Rumors of state tt championships on the 18th... three day weekend on the 17-19th went to two, now cancelled (maybe?), race on the weekend of the 25th changed from unappealing to appealing... Anyway. Just heads up, us natives might be trying to swap some dates around after things settle out. Still want to get together and ride.

No worries. We will make it work. Or we won't.

I actually haven't booked flights yet but will do so in the next day or two. If it looks like y'all might be tied up June 18th, we might actually fly in that day instead.

We're for sure heading out Sunday the 26th early though.

So from my perspective, June 19 or 25 may be the only days I'll be able to ride in the Denver area. Of course anyone who wants to come to Breck during any part of the week is welcome.

Wondering if I might be able to join in on a ride or two as I will be near the Grand Mesa for the month of June. I have ridden a few of the big mountain rides solo over the years; it would be fun to have a group.

Absolutely. I haven't really planned anything. Do you have anything in particular in mind?

Disclaimer: I'm a slow climber and bad at altitude.

I'll be climbing a lot so an easy day or two will be welcome (or another crushing day). I don't consider myself a pure climber at all but I have won a HC or two.

*edit* I have yet to get to Independence Pass and would like to knock that off the list. The Copper Triangle is a great ride with little traffic and great mountain views.

The basic gist is that I'll mostly be in Breckenridge. I'm happy to ride alone, I do it a lot. My husband does not ride but he SAGs my rides, so that helps tremendously with logistics. I'd probably be most interested in riding around Breck but we'd do a road trip for something worthwhile.

I'll be at the end of a training block, so will probably be fatigued. I was thinking maybe a few 20-40 mile rides and maybe a 70-100 mile ride. But I'm flexible. Scenic is more important than grueling, since I'm on vacation.

Are your days free or do you need to work?

I am completely free of work for the month! Since it will be a drive from my location, Molina, I would prefer a long ride. The Copper Triangle starts just up the road from Breck in Copper Mtn. It is a big loop to Leadville, then Vail, and back to Copper Mtn. It is long and lots of climbing. But I am open to anything, really I just like to meet new people from BF.
