When the 'easy' day is 120 miles and 3800 feet, that pretty much defines epic.

AzT, I think you're squarely in "monster" category...

15 miles of recovery pace today (except for up a couple of short hills and some rollers). Legs took a while to wake up, but when they did, they were just fine.

AzTR, that is quite a training block! Was it some kind of demented training camp?

It's a ride that has been being held for a long time, by a bike shop that started in Scottsdale in I think 1912. The entire ride used to be done in one day. The owner of the shop (they have three locations) doesn't want anyone else's name on the ride, so he finances it himself. The fee is $65, which all goes to a cycling organization. He funds the support - 14 or 15 stops, with food, drink mix, sunscreen, virtually anything you could need. They even have bags at the bottom of the descents so you can shed your cold weather gear. The support is there, but there is no coddling: no lectures, no instructions, you just ride. We rode through some amazingly beautiful countryside: mountains, forests... and I even noticed it now and then, when I wasn't just staring cross-eyed at the pavement. The best view for me was after we crossed Mingus Mountain, and had gone through Prescott Valley. I looked back at the mountain range, and thought: Damn. We just climbed that. I was also with a great group of guys, although they spent every meal looking at segment times on Strava. That thing is taking over cycling. :/
I just started base phase, so yes, it was coach approved.
I feel amazingly okay today.

AzT, I'm up for a long ride. Coach hasn't started me on base phase, though. We're still into strength building (I've GOT to get better on the climbs).

To quote a famous poster here, to get stronger at climbing you should do climbs... Its working for me (at least it seems to be).

You are a much stronger rider AZTR. And,... Stay away from that Strava thing, it's the devils way of destroying planned workouts.

And it plays hell with paceline/group etiquette. Somebody always wants to go to the front and drill it if he knows there's a segment. We rarely had a smooth effort going, and frankly I just stopped pulling, both to make sure I could do the climbs, and because coming around the whole line to the front, then pulling, then falling off to the back totally wasted to recover so you can do that again is just not my idea of how it should work. So I went on strike and sucked wheels unless we had a real rotation going. I like these guys, but the Strava focus is something else. It's an obsession for some of the folks who don't race.

And that, is why I do not like Strava even though I am a member. It blows up group rides, and sometimes there's no way to avoid it other than dropping off.

I deactivated my Strava account. I discovered that I just wasn't interested in comparing my performance when not racing with a bunch of other people who may or may not be going as hard as they can, under circumstances that differed from mine, etc. etc. Plus the whole posing thing is a bit pathetic.

Don't worry RR, we will help turn you around.
Last night was a 48 minute recovery ride. I had to spin out some hurt from Sundays ride. The menu for tonight is very hard sprint intervals, possibility at the velodrome. The track has been open on a few nice days for Founders Club members if they have a volunteer to open up. The regular track schedule begins May 1st. I packed the road and track bikes in the 4Runner for today.

The B2 is sort of ready to roll. I changed the saddle, fooled with the handlebar position, and put air in the tires. Later this morning (when I get home from work) I'll take it out for as long as I can stand it or an hour, which ever comes first.

When coach assigns recovery on the TT bike, I think I can guess what's coming up. Did an hour of it yesterday, cruising the canal with TallWife. Talk about the Odd Couple: TT bike and a hybrid?
