The most bizarre thing I've experienced with HR was after my crash. For quite awhile (weeks) my HR would just race, out of all proportion to the effort. Way beyond what a reduced FTP would indicate. It was some systemic 'thing' that very suddenly stopped, like an electrical connection was snapped back together. HR dropped on a ride when I was finally able to push it a bit, and after that was essentially normal. It was truly weird, like I had to break through some block to get back to 'normal'. The other strange "electrical connection" crash effect was numbness in my chest from trauma to my ribs in back - interruption of the nerve pathways. That is finally almost entirely gone. I can now once again tell if my nipple is hard, without touching it.

Initial impression is that it does seem to work as claimed. When he used it at our Spain training camp he put in about 30 hours on the bike in eight days. It showed him holding up well for about five days, then his numbers crashed and didn't fully bounce back until more than a week later. Anyway, I'll report back after we've had more experience with it.

For the first time all season I feel like I did during the run up to Nats last year. After two straight 150+ TSS days I feel stronger now than I did three days ago.

Great to hear, Shovel...

I did 30' of criss-cross, and 30' of pace this evening. Felt good, but without the PM, it's hard to know what I'm putting out.

Bike seat-mast gets cut tomorrow, and the PM arrives as well.

Adaption drills today. It's going to be hot (we have a heat advisory), and I'm not at all used to that, so I'll get out there as soon as I can after I get home from work this morning to do them. I hope the weather for the race this coming Sunday isn't too hot. That would make it more a struggle for survival than a race.

it's mysterious, this old body of mine. After my stuck HR on Tuesday, and a day off yesterday, I went out and did an exactly similar interval session today. Probably not the right thing to do, but I was curious. Absolutely no problem, felt easy (as easy as VO2 max intervals can feel), heart like a hummingbird's.

80 degrees, but I lived through it. TSS of 102, NP 166, Max power 637. Two sets of drills, the first before I was warmed up, the second as I was warming up. I still can't hammer off the saddle (unless I'm racing) for more than 40 seconds. My Garmin bricked during the ride, but I managed to get it to reset after I erased it and reinstalled it's firmware and software. Whew - I didn't need to buy another Garmin!

Teaser update on the Giant. Met with my fitter today, expecting him to cut down the seat mast a few mm. Instead he inserted some spacers - he wants me more extended, and to stop raising the front of my foot on the downstroke; something I apparently do to compensate for never having been able to get the saddle of the Madone up high enough. I wonder if that could also be why my hips move so much - because of the foot motion. Probably not, but we'll see. But if you thought the Madones looked tall, just wait until you see this one next week!

And Sara? Most of us do our warmups before the drills, not after the drills, but maybe we are all just bass-ackwards, and you've discovered a super-secret technique? You do know a certain someone both reads this forum, and actually looks at files you send him, don't you? Oh wait, I forgot, your Garmin bricked out on you. Hmm... coincidence?

80 degrees. You coasties need to come over the mountain to the valley! I grew up in Yuba County and when I was a kid we wouldn't even go to the pool until it was 95. We didn't want to catch a chill.

Mid-week race which involves a lot of driving, intervals at the track which involves a bit of driving, or JRA for a couple of hours? Decisions, decisions.

Yeah, whatever, I'll see your 80 degrees and raise you a May day record breaking snowstorm. Luckily the roads are warm, though, so they dried out fast. JUst got back from 3' v02max intervals, 42 degrees.

Around an hour of Z2 HR this evening. A welcome ride after two hard training days this week. Yesterday's 10 x 1/2 mile intervals on 5' was a killer.

I used the PT, too. I'm guilty, and he'll see it! A few weeks ago I did a routine where I warmed up before I did a drill, and I was told nope, drill first, then pace. Maybe I missed something in the translation? I was thinking today while I was doing the A2 (followed by A1) that "maybe he wants to see how I react to not being warmed up". Nothing like adaption drills to warm you up, though.

I saw that on the news! Crazy weather!!! We're having record heat right now, and SoCal is burning -

At least for me, coach doesn't list the warmup, just the workouts themselves. But a warmup is included in the total time for the day. Two 30 minute workouts would have a total for the day of 1.4 hours. The extra is the warmup and cool-down . I do a warmup, then the drills in the order assigned, then cool-down a bit on the way back to the house. I have 10-15 minutes getting to where I can ride a proper workout, and I use that for warmup. I know that living in a hillier area makes that more difficult.

Your ATL is 149???

Good luck tomorrow. See you on Sunday. Looks like most of the last minute adds at Orchard Beach are in my group. A couple of real doozies. It's going to be Shovel .vs. The Sprinters.
