Did the extended warmup for the upcoming TT - an hour and five minutes for a three mile race. Total ride time was 1:31, TSS 115, IF .87, 925 kj. I think I'd do better with the shorter one I've done before, 43 minutes all told (or is it tolled?). I'm talking to my coach in the morning, I'll bring it up then.

It may be a moot point - my wife is getting so upset due to the upcoming job loss that marital harmony might require not racing, or at least not all three stages. She thinks I should stop riding entirely, and spend every waking second looking for work. The TT is the first to go if I have to cut out something, since it's late on Saturday and would require me staying in town for several hours just hanging around.

IMO, finding a job won't be facilitated by frustration or a lack of health/fitness. Sorry to hear you have that stress.

I did 1' over-gear intervals, 5' criss-cross intervals, a half hour of tempo, and a couple of sprints today. 2 24 oz bottles in 90', as it's getting hot here.

Loving the new bike!

revchuck- I went through the job loss and finding new employment 10 years ago. I had just turned 50 and my wife encouraged me to stay fit as a means of beating age discrimation. She also would get impatient at times when I did not apply for some positions that would have been a big step backwards.

I am on recovery this week with everything reduced even more so I can bring my A sprints to the Major Taylor Velodrome TT's this weekend. My goal is to ride as hard and smart as possible then identify areas needing improvement.

Good luck Chuck. Try and convince your wife that you cannot look for a job 24 hours a day. It is a very stressful job and you will need to take a mental break. Racing may have to be toned down but there is no reason you can't continue to ride and even train if you prefer.

Rode 90 minutes on the trainer this morning. Drove to NYC and back to move my oldest home. Then got back on the trainer to finish up the workout. #extracredit

Chuck, I definitely fall on the "you need to stay active" side of the line. Fitness will help your focus and your mental health, as well. I'd be happy to explain that to your wife. She may be pleased to hear that coming from a woman.

Today goes down in infamy. I hope I don't see a day like this in a while, if ever!

My plan was to ride the Bianchi in the first part of the Tuesday group ride to get in a warmup so I could do X1 intervals on the Cannondale, which was at my house. It started out that way, but the Bianchi developed a problem with the front DR and wouldn't shift from the small ring to the big ring. I rode to my house, as planned, got on the Cannondale, and then realized that I'd left the LYC at my boyfriends house. Poo. I thought, self, you know heart rate, just go do the X1 intervals with the Garmin and then meet the group at coffee. I did that, but X1 turned out to be more like sprints than even efforts. This is supposed to be a rest week!

I met the group on the road just after I did the last effort, so I rode with them to coffee. From there, I rode to my boyfriend's house to get my Subaru and go home. He lives maybe four blocks, about a 1/2 mile, from the coffee shop. On the way to his house, some dimwit in an old Dodge pickup comes tearing ass around me, cuts in front of me and slams on his brakes, apparently intending for me to plow into the back of his POS truck! I didn't, and when I pulled up next to him to ask him WTF, he blasts off.

Okay, then.

I got to the Tall Russian's house, we got the Cannondale up on to the Yakima rack on the Subaru, we both piled into said Subaru and headed for my house. When I made the turn on to my street, I had to stop to wait for a garbage truck that was at work, and as I came to a stop there was a horrendous noise above and behind me, and in my driver's side mirror, I saw my Cannondale tumbling OFF of the Yakima rack!!!!! O M G !!!!! It stopped it's fall, hanging by the rear wheel, which was still strapped to the rail. Alex and I got it untangled, and then assessed the damage, as well as what the hell had happened.

The rear wheel, the Openpro with the PT hub, has a broken spoke and a bent spoke. The rest of the bike seems okay - not even a mark, except for the seat post. The Yakima rack had popped both front mounts loose, as well as the rear mount on the drivers side. I have some pretty good scratches on the roof where the bike made contact with it, and where the Yakima had slid rearward.

Why? The garbage truck apparently had hit a telephone wire crossing the street, and my seat post had grabbed it as I passed under the sagging wire. I was only going about 10MPH, but that was enough to peel the bike and the rack off of my car.

The Yakima is back in place on the roof and is undamaged. The Subaru could be a lot worse. The CAAD 10 needs to have the rear training wheel looked at, but at least it wasn't my race wheels!

What a day.

I have to admit that some of the adventures you've had with your bikes popped into my mind when I was going through this today, AzT!

My thoughts exactly. Glad it wasn't worse!

All - thanks for the support. My wife knows how important cycling is to me, and has admitted it's all emotion on her part. The fact that I took Monday off for job search stuff has mollified her somewhat, and I'm keeping her up to date on what I'm doing about it so she knows I'm not just screwing off. She's just afraid of the unknown. Tomorrow is our 33rd anniversary, and we've been through worse times, so I'm not too worried.

revchuck, sorry to hear about the conflicts between racing, job hunting, and the home front. It's easier to say this from afar but cycling and racing will always be there for you. The other things might not. Of course, it's not an all or nothing proposition either. Hope you achieve the appropriate balance and that the next job is around the corner.

sarals, bad luck with the bike but good luck that it was worse as it easily could have been.

Track workout yesterday - starts and flying laps. It was too windy to motor pace. Of course, the wind died and the temperature was perfect after the session was over.

2 cycles of Ex's gym strength exercises. Nothing else does what these do to/for my legs. These, and his on-the-bike strength oriented drills, are the ones I most love to hate. I'm convinced that, when layered in at appropriate times, they have huge impact on race performance. I should just be recovered from today by this Sunday's crit. It's a course with a climb and a lot of corners, and I think I'll be ready to cause some pain this year, rather than vice-a-versa.

Spin class yesterday. Hopefully adaption drills today. Second night in a row of up all night at work. Sleep will probably take the priority over the adaption drills. No PT anyway, due to broken spokes on the PowerTap rear wheel...

Adaption drills (A1, for those who know Coach). Felt pretty good. Flatted four miles from home, and I didn't have my seat wedge. Walked home. At least I finished the assignment. This hasn't been my week....

I did my strength work (A3's) on the Felt (yay) on the trainer (boo) last night. Power stunk for the first set but the second set went well. It's been a while. It really put a lot of stress on my shoulder, and I was in some pain all over last night, but it's all good. I plan on riding outside this weekend for the first time since the crash.

I. Am. Going. To. Cleveland.
