Vance, you sure get some big groups down there!

Another Cold Garage session this morning before work. It's just too dark to ride in the early mornings anymore, so I'm relegated to the garage or the gym on my day shift work days. I don't see that well in low light, even with my Light in Motion bazillion candlepower headlight, and I do NOT want to hit something and then hit something else - the ground - again. No risks, me.

The TT bike is a BEAR on the trainer. I can't make any power on it, especially on the sticks. So, I'm going to put the race bike, the CAAD, on the trainer tonight. Anyway, I did 55 minutes this morning, tried some 1 min on/off intervals - 1 min at FTP, 1 min at pace X 5 - and had a hard time holding the power up. I've become a freakin' Fred! Craptastic....

That week's in the bag...whew. Today's ride was eventful. We ended up with 3:26 riding time. The rain started at about the 1:00 point and continued for two plus hours. Right when we got out of the rain, I noticed the bike was kinda bouncy - yup, flat rear tire. It's so nice to have a couple of guys to hold your bike while you fix a flat. That was a first for me. Whatever I ran over was sharp enough to go right through the flat protection belt.

So, "only" 281.6 miles this week, TSS was 910. Over 1100 miles in the last 30 days, including a recovery week. Biggest month ever, this week was my second biggest week with last week being my biggest. Tomorrow's a rest day - damn straight!

Fixing the dragging rear brake took care of that.

Relatively "normal" 55 minute trainer ride this morning. I did the same intervals as yesterday, and I managed to hold well above FTP on the efforts. I also went "faster", and was able to comfortably (a relative term) hold my pace power to the higher part of the range.

I made an adjustment to the handlebars, moved the sticks back slightly and flattened them a little more. I also adjusted the elbow pads. i HATE the gel filled pads on those supports - they get slippery. I'm going to have to replace or cover them.

The rear brake caliper was a little sticky and wasn't opening all the way, causing one pad or the other to slightly contact the rear wheel. That was enough to make riding it difficult. All better now!

Thanks! I'm hoping the results will be impressive this spring...or at least noticeable. This build has certainly reset my concept of lotsa miles. I have this week, then two weeks off the bike until after the Fickle Finger of Fate, then another build like this, then ramping down the time and ramping up the intensity. And I get to burn through all those old, mismatched used tires I have, too.

Chuck, I think your efforts now will be definitely noticed come the new season. You've been really dedicated, and I know you'll do well.

I skipped riding last weekend due to spending all day tailgating then attending the 8:00 PM Ohio State/Penn State game. We then spent Sunday visiting both our son's and SO's in Columbus. I took my bike and kits but opted out to visit, eat and drink a few brews.

Today I did a 1.5 hr ride with two sets of 10 x 40" hills with recoveries coming back around to the bottom.

I did the Tuesday group ride today. 31 miles, went off the front relatively early, which was a little TOO early, but hey, it wasn't a race. Sucked on the main climb. I couldn't help but notice (ahem) that I don't have the pop or the recovery right now, but I am still fast when I want to be. That's amazing. I thought that would have gone, too.

I got my packet from coach. Almost time to get to work!

1:40 at subtempo on the FG this morning as part of my long detour commute. Rode through a cloud of black gnats on the levee road. I'm sure I looked classy walking into the building with a dozen tiny insects stuck to my face.

Night ride of 36 miles with a strong group of 6 today. The young guns pushed the pace the whole time on the flat ride. A few times after taking my pulls I almost went off the back but held on. It seemed that every time I was next up the guy on the front nailed it leaving me semi-gassed going into my pull. Some times it sucks being old.

1 hour fixed gear thrash followed by a 2 mile *** with Ridley. Did nothing from Sunday through yesterday after my 4 hour slog with the new team folks up GMR and 39. Vance Mac sighting. Tomorrow is a swim and probably some track work.

Altitude is definitely not my friend. The EIA really kicked in as we got higher up. Lungs have been really bad the last bunch of rides. Starting to look at chronic treatment vs. the acute inhaler stuff.

Did you see VM on his way down, or did he pass you on his way up? (I've been on a hill with him)

Hope you get that breathing working!

I was flying down as they were heading up (we didn't start with GMR), but those green/white kits are unmistakable.

Roger's Session at VSC tonight. Intervals only, no motor game. Kind of a race (hillclimb) on Saturday. Doing it because it's a route that I've wanted to try for a long time (17.5 miles, 5,100 ft climbing, finishes at 8,100 ft). Hope to embarrass myself only a little.

Climbing with my girlfriend Barb today. No sightings of anybody except the two of us. She was complaining that she's slowed down since Huntsman. Right. I set a PR trying to stay with her on a climb. Sheeeeeesh...!

I won't speak for others, but I've never felt great when setting PR's at any thing longer than 30".
