Another possibility is that the retaining clip inside has loosened or broken, leaving the bearing to slide back and forth. Hard to say by just the video. I wouldn't race it like that, although I don't think it would be dangerous unless the bearing collapsed and locked the wheel up.

I don't believe that Saris services the large hub series anymore, especially the wired SL. They should offer you a G3/G4 guts upgrade for $350. They use the existing hub but replace all of the guts including the electronics, bearings, axle, and freehub. It converts your wired hub to ANT+ wireless. This assumes that you have an ANT+ head unit like a Garmin. Give them a call and see what they'll do. Another option is that some race oriented shops will replace the bearings for you.

Good luck.
Shovel, I'll have a look at it tomorrow and I'll let you what I find. Thank you for that info! If I need to have the hub serviced by Saris, it would be silly not to have it upgraded. I have a Garmin 810 that would just love to have a power device to talk to while it's monitoring my rides!

It turns out there are nuts on either end of the axle. The one on the non drive side had loosened, so that was an easy fix! However, the bearings in the hub don't feel smooth and they don't rotate all that easily. I called Saris, and the upgrade/rebuild/full service is still $350 and they still do it. Next week I'll arrange with Ex as to when I should do it, and then get it taken care of.

The tire problem was a TINY piece of wire that had penetrated the carcass and made a pinhole in the tube. That's now fixed, too.

Next - recovery ride on the TT bike.

This forecast is depressing and makes 2-3 hr workouts harder when there are no races for months. At least I get to go fishing.

It's been unusually cold in LA, but nowhere near that level. Then again, he's going to sit around drinking beer and freezing for a few days, so it's appropriate.

Did 1:15 of endurance pace including 2x20' threshold intervals by HR last night. If took forever - okay, about 90 seconds - for my HR to get to the right level. I've been in the wrong place to try to ship off my PT, too, so this might continue longer than planned. Sheesh.

We might could get to the high teens today and maybe(!) the 30's on Sat.
When I put the dogs out this morning it was nothing out with a -19 Windchill. Can't even fish in that.

Planning to fish on Erie on Saturday with my son. 20+ mph winds will make a tough day. Thankfully we have a quad to make the 5 mile trek to the islands and shanties to hide in.

Did the practice crit last night. I rode stronger, but let myself get gapped and ended up a lap down. I'm cornering fine the masters races, but get just a touch more tentative in the Tuesday night group.

Tonight is another effort to achieve Perfect Pelvic-Tilt Position.

Got a PR on one of my regular routes today. Funny thing is, I wasn't trying. My coach's instructions were to keep my power in the top third of my endurance range...since I don't currently have power, I SWAGed the HR range. Apparently I had a slight tailwind on the way out and the wind died down by the time I got back. Whatever, I'm taking it.

Same ride, 1000' vertical difference.

Inversions suck.

Looks like some of the rides I used to do in Reno. Nice when you're above it. Below, not so much.

Yup, 26 below the layer, and 45 above.

It's been like this, pretty much since Nov. I'm worried that this is the new norm for winter around here.

That would give me motivation to do some climbing.

After thinking about it, I cannot understand why anyone (including me) who REALLY loves riding, would not move to a state that borders Mexico or the Gulf of Mexico unless your a masochist. And please. don't use the family obligations or life gets in the way excuse, not if your a real biker.

I'm about 80 miles north of the Gulf of Mexico. Snow showers predicted for tomorrow morning. Just sayin'...

2x20 threshold intervals tonight in 40 degree temps with 15 mph N winds, can't wait to ride in this tropical weather!

I like to fish for Rock; don't mean I'm moving to Shady Side and living at Backyard Boats
The other part is I can't make a living on the bike; I can where I'm at.

I've entered into discussions with the wife about moving. We both consider that living where it's warmer would be a plus however neither of us want 'flat'. We have to look out the windows and see mountains.

From a "glass half-full" perspective, at least I don't have to worry about various snakes, both poisonous and nonpoisonous, wandering up onto the road to soak up that last bit of heat.

There is no one "real biker" approach. There is no "only one" approach to, well, anything.

(says the guy living in of the 'approved' states)
