Openers today, I was careful! Training crit tomorrow. Ex said "keep your nose out of the wind, you haven't been training for this". Absolutely. I'm riding with two teammates in a combined Juniors/Beginner Cat 4/Experienced Cat 4 field, which sounds pretty volatile to me. The game plan is to stay close to the front, out of the way of the squirrels, and hope no one takes me out. I'm looking forward to racing, but I have absolutely no expectations. I am looking forward as well to racing with teammates! That will be a first.

2 fast crit's yesterday, and then a hammerfest group ride today. Biggest weekly load in a long time. Exhausted and feeling great about that.

No riding today, went ice fishing with my son. Pretty nice day.

No riding this weekend. Saturday was a combined weather (still-frozen roads in the morning) and maintaining marital harmony day. Saturday afternoon into Sunday morning was spent on Greyhounds and in Greyhound stations getting up to Denton, TX to retrieve my F150 from my son. I got about three hours sleep altogether and drove back home on caffeine and a 5 Hour Energy shot. At least now I don't have to stuff my bike into the back seat of my wife's Charger anymore...I did sleep well last night.

Snow again Tuesday. In south effin' Louisiana.

Key to cycling and marital harmony: Be so miserable (and miserable to be around) when not riding that she shoves you out the door and says; "Go ride or move out!".

That applies to any 'hobby'. Mine has told me to go fishin', go shoot a weapon, or any multitude of activities.

What makes life real difficult is when you work from home and the other half of the harmony bit is also at home full time. I've been playing that game for 17 years. Nobody has been homicided yet so we must be doing something right eh?

Can't do that, I don't take pictures of nothing.:D. There was a walleye contest on the lake we fished Sunday. Our catch matched the contest winner's. A 8.5" crappie won biggest fish of all species.

I'll be on the big lake Thur, possibly will have something to show.

all over again

Nacler, it was thick today!

Recovery ride on the TT bike first think this AM. I went on RPE because the PowerTap is on the way to Cyclops for a complete rebuild - yay!

I received my weekly update from Coach this morning, and wow!!! Progress, real progress!!! I'm feeling pretty good about this.

Great to hear, Sara.

I did a fitness class tonight: first half was a Cross-fit version of Tabata intervals. Class went by quickly.

Yesterday:
6 degrees out so I ra* a 5k at dinner then in the evening 1 hr Z2 on the trainer higher than normal cadence (avg 97)

caloso 01-29-14 02:48 PM

Took two days off due to work and fighting a cold. Rode the fixed gear to work, 20 miles, z-whatever. Just turning the pedals over. Sometimes unstructured is good for my structure.

IBOHUNT 01-29-14 06:21 PM

11 degrees with a windchill of 3 degrees.
Run 5.3 miles outside then 90 min on the trainer in Z2

sarals 01-30-14 04:05 PM

Yesterday - 30 minutes of core and 30 minutes of cadence drills.

Today - unshackled, no power limits, and allowed to ride with my training partner. I worked on being smooth, keeping the cadence as high as I could on the climbs, and rolling on the power. I absolutely struggled on the climb. We turned around at the top and then did the descent. When we got to a flatter section, my bike just slowed down. Yeup, the rear brake was dragging. I fixed that (cocked caliper and the rear wheel wasn't tight enough). Rode just okay for the rest of the ride. I don't have TSS or anything else, the PT wheel is on it's way to CycleOps.

Just one more thing on the pre-flight checklist now eh?

Tires inflated? Check
Brakes not rubbing? Check
Shoes? Dag Gumit!

IBO, yeah. The brakes on the CAAD have always had a tendency to stick - the caliper isn't free on the post. They've been "tended to" more than once. I switched out wheelsets and my "attention to detail" wasn't detailed enough!

You are not alone Sara. On one of my group night rides a few years ago after about 5 miles I was " totally cooked" and told the guys I was bagging the ride and would ride back to the brew pub while they continued. One of the guys said that I should check my brakes and sure enough the rear brake shoe was dragging.

I don't think anybody that has ridden for any amount of time is not guilty of that at least once.
I've managed to forget my shoes twice now :(
I'm blaming it on old age and the hit to the truck last summer. Surely just can't be a me problem eh?
