JRA Just Ride Along. Although, I prefer Just Ride As You Feel.
JRA was first coined by bike shops. It went something like this:
LBS: Can I help you?
Bike guy: Yeah. I think something is wrong with my bike and I want to get it fixed under the warranty.
LBS: Your frame is broken in 17 places. Both wheels are oval. The seat and post is missing. I don't think this is a warranty claim. It looks like it fell off a roof rack at 70 MPH.
Bike guy: I was just riding along and all this stuff happened.
Another interval session at the velodrome tonight. Same workout as on Tuesday. The last Z4 in the second set hurt a lot.

Intervals today were a TOTAL bust. Ex - I'll do them again tomorrow.
First, it was raining. I waited until the rain stopped and the roads dried a bit. I got on the bike, and the front shifter wouldn't work. Stuck. So, I put the bike in my car, picked up the Tall Russian, and went to the LBS. They fixed it (dirt cleaned out and cable lubed, plus a suspicious cable kink addressed). I had them check my chain. It was outside of the limit - worn out. So, I had a new chain put on. And an anti-chain suck $30 piece of aluminum, as well. I got on the bike from the LBS and rode to where I was going to do the intervals and other assigned iterations. The wind had picked up, and was gusting to over 25 MPH. Crud! I could not get into a rhythm, at all, and then my legs died. I mean, died. I hung my head and went home.
Sara - Sounds like it just wasn't meant to be. :( On the flip side, you've taken care of stuff that shouldn't need attention again for a good while.
Trying to do intervals while fighting a buffeting wind can be frustrating, especially when you need to keep your power in a narrow range.

Improved a bit more. Still clogged up and coughing but instead of hacking for 15 minutes, I am down to 5. Doubt I can race tomorrow but there's a chance. If not I watching Flanders, which ought to be a war this year. Need to verify my provider is going to carry it, otherwise it's the Eurosport feed run through the computer into the TV.

After a few days off the bike hanging out in NYC and eating a lot, I am now comprised of a new heavy metal that appears on the Periodic Table as a new element 104 Hermesium right at 103 Lawrencium. Unlike Lawrencium, that was made in an atomic reactor, this new heavy metal Hermesium was created at Trattoria Dell'Arte on 7th Avenue across from Carnegie Hall by combining a massive piece of tiramesu with a mixture of way to much amazing bread and red wine and antipasti. We have been going to that restaurant for years and it is one of our favorites.
Upon returning home, I went to the cycling gym Thursday night ready to be brutalized by Dmitriy to find him more concerned about easing back than throwing me against the wall to see if I would break. I did a 2x20 high cadence at very low power. He gave me my new program for the next couple of months that continues the 20 minute efforts on the rollers but increases the power and duration. Where I used to split efforts into a 2 and 3 minutes at different power levels, the new program requires 5 minutes continuos at a higher power. The final 2 minutes is maximum power. And now that I am really getting good at jumping, I must stop.
Physically, I'm doing better. Road rash is slowly clearing up, I can walk comfortably again, and feel okay driving - thank goodness I don't have a stick shift! Mentally, I'm in a strange place...I'm so used to having cycling central to my day, and now that it's been removed I'm at a loss what to do with the time. I ordered this book on my coach's suggestion so I can work on my mental game. Now that I've gotten hurt, my mind's going through the "Do I really want to continue racing?" debate/cost-benefit analysis. I'm also not used to being on the receiving end of help, though I'm grateful it's there. It's a mixed bag, but trending positive.
FWIW I have fallen a lot more out training over the years than I have racing bicycles. Neither one of those numbers is very big fortunately. Two wheeled things fall over from tome to time.
Ex - Understood, I've also had a close encounter of the guardrail kind on B500 in the vicinity of Baden-Baden trying to keep up in the corners with a CB900F on my R90/6. User-tested a Bell Star II on that one...not that I'm dating myself or anything.
Chuck...I hear you. In spite of the questioning, you'll be back. You've had no where near enough of this (is there enough?).
There is something seriously wrong with me. I mean, I'm not supposed to react like this. Babies crying, puppies cooing, all of that - is supposed to cause me to swoon and make my nurturing instinct come forward, and they do. But, I am not supposed to react the way I did just a little while a go to a sound. OMG...I was seriously in love!
