Thanks for all the kind thoughts from everyone. This is actually a steady state thing, something I'll be doing indefinitely at six month intervals. As long as I stay at or near normal PSA levels, ain't no sawbones gonna be cuttin' on me. I was well within normal last time, and expect to be the same this time. If I do need to be cut on, it'll have to wait until after Rouge-Roubaix!

Yikes!
From my coach's website https://4thehealthofit.net/
I'm probably at 175rpm when I pass the camera @ 20 seconds into the outdoors video. I topped out at 37.5 mph in a 70 inch gear before we hit the wall and then high torque. I don't think I could hold that pace HC for more than 30". I find it very stressful to stay on top of the pedals on screaming descents. My coach calls those efforts flip/flops. The second video shows his trainer class doing the same going from HC of 140 in our easiest gear for 1' then to the over gear of 53/11 or 12 for 1' @ 60 rpm x 6 cycles for the set. I'm in the front row, 2nd from the left just as handsome as usual.

Chuck! My very wishes. This age stuff really sucks sometimes.
I did openers today for the ride tomorrow. The venue for that has changed due to the (very real) fear of ice on the roads. I have already impressed Ex with my crashing expertise, but the folks I usually ride with don't need to see it again. So, we're doing our usual Tuesday group ride. I plan to be off the front. Maybe!
The season has started. I entered the Sea Otter Women's Masters 35+ crit today. I might bite on the road race (even though I hate the course). Now I have a goal. Ex, sharpen the wips!!

Hey Chuck, somehow in my usual Monday coaching fog I missed the junk junk. Hope things stay in check and sending positive vibes your way.
For everybody else:
a) Skiing counts, it's on the pulldown menu in WKO
b) The apocalypse has been averted. Mrs. Ex and I did 2 hours of XC this afternoon.
Flippin cold too...teens.

Instead of a Tuesday Night Crit, we had a Tuesday Morning "Circuit Race": 1 mile each direction on an empty road, with 180* turnarounds at each end. I rode aggressively, but once again had trouble getting off the front, only managing it for very brief spells. The pack was very aggressive (early on anyway) in chasing people down, and my attempts to bridge became pulls instead. I didn't quite have the snap to create a big enough gap. One guy managed to get OTF with about 5 laps (10 miles to go). He was strong, and I pressed people to help chase him down, but only three of us were working, and he was still out there when two other guys managed to bridge with about two to go. My attempt to pursue after they had blown past turned into another pull, and those of us working were unable to reel them in. When it became clear we wouldn't, I took a breather, then accelerated out of the last turn and was 4th in the pack sprint; 7th overall. Turns out the guys who managed to stay away were young guys from Team Primal, in town for awhile.
Not a bad result, but I need to find just a bit more snap, and get smarter with my attacks and bridges. There was that one defining moment. I recognized it could be the ball game, but didn't react quickly enough to cover the bridge. Then I was telling myself "Okay, we'll reel them in"... but we didn't.
Was a hell of a good time. Racing is just so much fun when you can mix it up in front, huh?

We have the first USA cycling race of the year - Mount San Bruno Hill Climb. I have done this race a couple of times and climb the hill often. Today, my wife raced and I did a climb up the mountain between waves. It was a nice but chilly day with some wind. I felt pretty good today and rode it high z3 and it was a great way to start the new year.
