Well I wrote a response about PMs and lost my work on a glitch.

I use Quarq on both road and TT bikes. I tried a power tap in the early days and regretted buying it about two days after I had it. The reason was that it limited my wheel choices on my road as well as TT bikes for racing. Training it was fine.

I've got three SRM's. One on my TT bike, one on my track bike, and one on my road bike.

Several models of SRM's allow you to move them from bike to bike in a few minutes, I did that for several years when my stuff was all 130 BCD and the same crank arm length. Right now used SRM's are the bargain of the century BTW.

It takes a fair amount of time to partially understand how to use a PM and parse data. If you're working with a coach who understands power that process will be greatly accelerated. FWIW I won't coach anyone without a PM; it's a bit like diagnosing someone's illness by email otherwise. I'm also a big fan of racing with a GoPro for my newer clients. Huge help in working on positioning and tactics when you can roll someone through frame by frame and do a critique.

I have a PT on my road bike with 30 wheels that I train on and sometimes race on. Usually for more important races I race the road bike with CF tubular wheels. For my two track bikes, sprint and pursuit/TT, I use a Stages PM. It doesn't matter which wheel set or bike I use on the track as it takes about 3 minutes to swap out the left crank arm and Garmin head.

We did our night ride on Tuesday and it rained the entire 37 miles. It was misting at the ride start and the smartphone's radar app showed no participation so we agreed it was only a lake effect pop up shower. Wrong! Got thoroughly soaked in windy 55 degree temps. Velomaniti #9 we are. The rest of the gang who stayed home and did spinning while watching Dancing With The Stars on the big screen TV need to abide Rule #5 .

At the Iceman Cometh on Saturday it will be in the 20's to 30's with rain/snow mix. I shall abide to #18 and #21 .

Velominati ? The Rules

Intervals, run, intervals this morning. I had a shingles shot yesterday which made me feel a bit funky (Cleave, thanks for the reminder - I hope you're feeling better!). However, as I and the air warmed up, that became negligible. My intervals were good and solid and the run in between went particularly well. Feeling pretty good these days!

Picked up a bug in Canuckistan, or in the aluminum tube I took back. Pretty sure it's Ebola. No training other than coughing the last three days. Might go throw some weight today. Aerobic stuff is definitely out till this clears.

First positive TSB in a month or more. Looked back at the long ride I did before I left for vacation last week and some promising data, I like to see the big duration numbers come at the end of a sustained effort.

Had planned on doing the 20k RR and 5K TT Senior Game thing Saturday. Fail.

My team mate left C&W to go to another race team yesterday. That team is Pen Velo, and on it are two strong master's ladies, one is 55+, one is 60+. I know both of them, and have raced against Norma (60+) four times this past season, and she's gotten me each and every time. But, I was getting closer at the end of the season! I was glad for Heidi that she was going to a team that could support her and vice-versa, but then a bomb shell dropped. Pen Velo invited ME to join them! After an email to Ex, and several to Heidi, and even more to Norma, I decided to leave C&W to race for what is going to be a strong master's women team. I am honored, flattered, and flabbergasted, all at the same time.

That is all!

Sara - Great news! Sounds like the Pen Velo master's women are going to be dishing out some serious pain next year.

Thanks, guys!

Yeah, I think we're going to be a pretty strong team. And I never thought I'd see the day. This is just so cool!

Congrats Sara. I know several of the PenVelo men and the women. I think it is a great racing club. I joined Ironfly this year that is a SoCal team but I know most of the racers and they race at the track at Velo Sports Center. I may join another team for the road.

Everyone, thanks!

I'm definitely the weakest rider on the team, but not really by all that much. The one thing that may be the fly in the ointment is that I'm a Cat 4, with little hope of catting up, and everyone else is a 3 or better. Many of the NCNCA master's women races are 1,2,3. That might exclude me, we'll have to see.

One thing I do know about my riding. I am NOT the rider I was at this time last year. I'm stronger, smoother, more consistent and smarter. Let's hope all that translates when the whistles blow next season, but right now I feel pretty good about myself!

Awesome, Sara! Even if you aren't in the same races, it's really great to be able to go to the race & warm up together etc, and know there's someone there who's got your back if you need a wheel or a beer handup or ride to the ER or something.

She's going to have to whup up on a bunch of babygirls to do that, much easier said than done. That said, I hope that's the team's plan.

I didn't say it was going to be easy, it never is. This is where women get screwed by USAC, no finish only upgrades.

For the majority of my races with the team, I race alone. If I am able to race in 2015 I will gain a strong M50+ rider. We don't live close enough to do recovery rides together but there are plenty of race day benefits to being on a team with nobody in your field.

The plan is to get Heidi up to 3 ASAP, and Ex had a suggestion that would help me get there, as well. I'm going to a Women's Committee meeting tomorrow night. One of the NCNCA BoD members will be there (it's at her house, in fact), and I plan to chat with her about it.

Yeah, we ladies get the short end, no question. There is no way I'm going to get X number of top ten finishes in a field of (I think it is) 15 or more of Cat 4 women, unless they're all 55+. There aren't that many 55+ women who actively race mass start races in our district, so my only option is to do it against sub 35 Y/O riders. Not gonna happen. So, plan B! Negotiate!
