Shorter ride than planned today due to wife wanting me around this morning, and having to work this afternoon. Still, it was a pretty good one - four sets of threshold intervals, each with five minutes of 85+ rpm followed by six minutes of 55-65 rpm, five minutes RBI. 1:23 altogether, TSS 114, IF .91, 1061 kj. I set a new PR for one hour AP, though I'm taking it with a grain of salt since it's with a different Powertap. It's 3% higher than the previous one, so it's within the combined variation of the two PTs. I think I'll claim it anyway.

Last week was a hard week, but that was expected. I dealt with it and did okay, even after falling on a flight of stairs. In fact, my FTP is now 155, up from 148. It doesn't sound like much, but my (limited but growing) experience tells me that 7 watts average over 20 minutes is a lot!

I have another cyclocross event on Saturday. This one could be the last one for this season for me. Any others would require a day off from work, and I don't know that I can do that. It's, well, interesting how the race schedules coincide with my work schedule. I have every other weekend off, but the bulk of the races seem to be on those weekends I have to work. Granted, I'm not willing to drive three hours each way to go to a cross race, but still...

Dismount/remount, dismount/run-carry/remount drills later this morning. Then I have to help do some prep around this house for a mega-storm predicted for Thursday. That storm will make the cyclocross course up in San Jose, where I'll be Saturday, ummm - interesting. I don't plan on heroics, just ride, get dirty, and come home - safely! The road season is close, and I don't want to sit out the first part because I'm hurt. Things are going too well right now to let something stupid happen.

Off to the track tonight for intervals. Trying a slightly different approach to base. Maybe after we finish building this house I'll be able to afford a coach.

1:14 in Z3 today, TSS 86, IF .84, 909 kj. The weather was beautiful, I would've liked to do a good four-five hours. Bleepin' job...

I started physical therapy yesterday, three days/week for a month. I asked the therapist about upper body work, and he told me I could do just about anything, using pain as my guide. No standard pushups for the time being due to the strain they put on the clavicle, but girl pushups are okay. Free and machine weights are okay within my range of motion.

Sara - Yup, the kind where you leave your knees on the ground. At least that's what they were called when we were in high school! Does this make me a girly man?

Taking Thursday off...

A High Wind Warning remains in effect from 10 PM this evening to 4 am PST Friday.

* Timing: winds will increase tonight with the strongest winds starting for the Thursday morning commute. Winds will diminish Thursday...but remain gusty into early Friday morning.

* Winds: south 30 to 50 mph with gusts 65 to 75 mph. High winds will affect all areas not just wind prone locations. Gusts around 90 mph are likely in wind prone areas.

Rain and wind Armageddon for Thursday and Friday plus wide spread power outages. We may have a two year drought solved in 36 hours. 2 to 4 inches of rain locally and with 6 to 8 inches in the mountains. I have a guy on the roof cleaning my gutters and generally cleaning up leaves.

Handstand push ups? I thought I was the only one subjected to that offseason punishment.

Nope, footstand pushups. The therapist doesn't want to strain my clavicle. My upper body is so weak I don't know whether I could do handstand push-ups anyway.

Hopefully the rain will hold off until I get to the track tomorrow (Thursday) night. A week ago, during our first big storm of the season, there was a leak on the back straight of the track. Won't get into the details but Roger Young accepted my suggestion on how to deal with the wet spot and we were able to do the intervals. Also hope that they fixed the roof sufficiently to keep the track dry tomorrow. But then, who am I to complain about our nice, temperature controlled, dry, indoor velodrome?

I have never been able to do handstand pushups, against a wall or otherwise.

Have been on the bike some this week (5 hrs and a TSS of 248) but since I rode with @AzTallRider in the blazing heat I've been spoiled. Today's weather is 33 degrees with winds WNW at 15 to 20 mph. My 'training route' consists of and 11 mile out and back that goes North - South so the back bit would be just an 11 mile wind interval. Not in the mood.

Wonder where I stashed that dag gum trainer

Those conditions are why I have riding buddies. We get 4 to 12 riders for my night rides that begins and ends at the brew pub. On the rides there is not too much talking until we are about 45' from the pub and discussion starts up about how good a beer is going to taste.

Doubt I could get many of the folks out for a ride in this garbage even if I offered a jar of apple pie
