GC - I've never bonked that hard, bummer for you and your friend. I'd do an easy ride tomorrow - as in HR in the double digits easy - and then the Z2 ride with some efforts as planned on Thursday. I'd listen really hard to my body on that ride, and can the racing this weekend if appropriate.
Heathpack - Gorgeous! Sunrise is my favorite time to ride.

Anyway I'm wondering how long it takes you old farts to recover after a full on bonk. Not talking about a "boy I was tired" thing, but the being at the brink of physical shutdown. I'm giving myself at least 3 days fully off the bike, tentatively planning for a bit of intensity maybe Thursday in preparation for racing Sunday.

Yup. Implanted the inert seeds in my prostate yesterday. That was the most invasive part. Pushed today's planned ride to tomorrow to let the blood clear out of my urine (a normal thing after this procedure) and the sedation drug to clear out of my system. Just finished my first cup of coffee this morning. Rockin' on!

I had a genuine bonk on Sunday for the first time in years. Just a classic undereat, overheat, middle of nowhere bonk. HR wasn't high and I wasn't gasping, but I could not turn the pedals. Had to get off the bike at mile 60, staggered around for a while, but then pedaled slowly another 20 miles mostly uphill before my head cleared enough for me to take a real break and gag down some food. The whole ride was 110 miles. I'd have quit if there was an option; as it was, my teammate cracked far worse and was puking so I had to ride back to the car so I could turn around and rescue him.

Two hour group ride this morning with the Nightcrawlers. We rode a bunch of little hills on the west side of town and then snuck into a local park before it opened. This is a nice 2 mile climb up an undeveloped canyon, we like to time it so we ride up in the dark & descend just as it starts to get light. Today we had two coyotes barking madly at us, which is weird, they usually just stare silently. Then we got into a little cloud of bats, attracted to our lights, it was cool to ride with the bats for a bit, that has never happened before.
The Nightcrawler rides almost always finish with coffee, which I am addicted to. They're good rides because I have to be home absolutely no later than 6:40 or I won't make my train to work. I don't want to miss coffee, so we keep the ride lively. I think it was something like 2hrs, 0.8 IF, TSS 135.
At coffee, I mentioned that I was 99% decided on the TT bike but I don't love the trim color and would maybe want to get the trim repainted. One of my Nightcrawler friends is the mother of a teenaged track phenomenon aka the Boy Wonder. All of the Boy Wonder's bikes are tricked out with custom paint, she can hook me up with the right people. Oh yeah, she says, and we'll start looking for some good used aero wheels for you.

Seriously though I get up early because I don't have the kind of job that ends at a specific time, I work until I'm done. So I can't plan anything for after work, that could be 10 pm (or 4pm, I never know). The days where I ride my bike are way better than the days where I don't, so its worth it to me to just get up and do it. But I'm off every Fri, Sat and Sun, really I have a pretty ok schedule in that regard.

0530 for me. 0600 on the bike so I can start the punishment ( ) Coach has planned for me that morning. Home by 0730, get ready for work, first coffee of the day, then off to work (if it's a day shift). I ride alone. We have coyotes, too. And turkeys. And foxes! And lots, and lots of fog.
I love that time of day. I wish my body did!
Chuck....you're an inspiration, buddy!
Heathie - custom paint? I like hearing that!
Oh - I named my TT bike TJ. It does great team time trials!

My plantaris muscle seems to be 90%. I was at the track on Tuesday and Thursday and no problem. I did 4 standing starts on Thursday and a couple of efforts in the morning and rode tempo on my road bike in the afternoon on the TT course with my wife.

My coach has put up the VO2 max build, starting Tuesday and going for two weeks. We're starting cautiously, 5x1' with 3' RBI, then 7x1' for the next one. We're targeting 120+% for the intervals. A recovery ride, then a rest day after each. Don't know whether to be scared or happy...I do know that this addresses a glaring weak spot in my fitness. This oughta be interesting!

I would prefer Magic Bike Blue trim to the green, it never hurts to add a little magic to your bikes. We'll see if I actually do it. I wanted Gulf Racing colors on the Sparrow- you know, light blue, orange, white and black- and I never did that because orange saddles are hard to find. However, I could have my saddle re-covered, I found a place that will do that. We'll see, that would look really good.
