Cleave,
We've been snow free in the Treasure Valley since early Feb./late Jan, which is pretty much the norm. The wind has been the devil this year. As for the dirt, I wish my mom had let me play in it sooner.
Colonelmom,
Nice. Like many have said, I'd love to do Battenkill, if only to say that I'd finished.
Sara,
Sorry, I'm rather obtuse at times. The Escalade was supposed to represent a "dirty Cadillac". My lame way of bragging about my first win in a Mtb. XC race.
Edit: Thanx LAJ.

Thank you sir.
Considering the usual suspects that I'll be against now, that will most likely be my one and only Mtb. win........... at least for awhile.

Second event in the 3-omnium Encino Series. Cat 4 was a larger field this time with a few big guns. My flying 200 was only good for mid-pack (no points). Need to work on that. In the points race (40/10), I had a random point or two early, and then broke away with about 5 to go for final sprint. Teammate bridged with 2 to go, worked together to stay away. He was in contention for overall, so I did not contest. I felt good going into the scratch race, and was intent on sitting back and conserving until end... the opposite of my usual m.o. But (always my worst fear), I missed the break of 4, and used a lot of energy bridging alone, so couldn't come around any of them at the end (no points). In the earlier session, I won the 50+ category again, though small field (Flying 200, win-n-out, Tempo).

Vance, when I hear you say Big Gun, I know you're including yourself. Outstanding racing, my friend!

With all the winning going on lately on this site, this is going to be boring. I'll make it short.
Bethel M45+, 50's and a strong wind, in the field. Going into this weekend, we had 1st and 2nd, but four riders within striking distance. We needed to open up a gap for the leader. So we basically kept everything as much under control as possible. I thought we worked very well as a team. Two guys got away and put 25s on the field, and that was the race, but all the points were in the field, and that was my focus. I did a ton of work as did everyone else. Even gsteinb took to the front to help reel a break in. gsteinb took the field sprint, so mission accomplished. 2nd place is tied, so he will be my focus next week, the final week.
P1/2/3, DNF. I was pretty shattered from the previous race, and contemplated just heading home, but instead decided to go as hard as I could for as long as I could. The field was small, which is a double edged sword. Good for the odds, bad for the wind, which had increased again, per usual. We had four in this race, and kept up the teamwork as best as we could. I chased down and pulled back several early attacks. At around the halfway point, we had two rides in breaks up the road. I was running out of gas and did not fight as hard as I should have. Our group got pulled about 20 seconds before we got lapped. However, as other groups got lapped, they were not pulled. Oh well. Payback for a few weeks ago, I guess. That's bike racing.

Thanks, both of you. It was a day where I wished I had brought my Contour. It would have made a good clinic video.

He was there in the morning practicing some TT efforts. When I chided him for not staying to do the omnium, he joked that he only races in the warm, comfort of VSC. At least I thought he was joking, but for a day that was originally forecast to be near 80 and sunny, the 12-3 session was overcast, moist, a little windy, and COLD. The sun finally came out for the 3-6 session.

Well let's see,
Vance folds at least one W into the weekend,
Shovel works his guts out for the team, who manage to take care of business,
and G takes the sprint (field or otherwise).
Yup, all is right with the 317. Nice work gents.

Chico Stage Race 45+ 1/2/3:
2 teammates. One team has 4 guys another has 8, and another has 5. Should be interesting. Trying some new strategies to deal with my allergies.
Saturday's road race was a 47 mile course with some rollers, several short climbs, and one longish climb. Plus 4 miles of gravel. The hammer was down, averaged around 26.5 MPH At point we were hitting 30+ on the gravel. For power buffs it was 10 minutes at 310w 90 minutes into the race. This broke the field up a bit. I had been in 5 breaks to that point, and probably did too much work. Thought I was flatting, but it turned out to be a broken rear spoke. My teammate (World TT Champ) got a few seconds up the road with three other guys, what was left of our group sprinted it out. Cramped a bit and came in 9th overall. Teammate finished 8th.
Covered in dust. Went and sat in a snow melt fed river after. Three guys were down there standing in the river smoking a joint. Cat 4's are amusing.
Sunday TT, 10 mile flat course. Blowing 10-20 at 90 degrees on two legs, headwind on the other. Make good wheel choice: take 3rd. TT Champ beat me, along with one of the guys in his break group. Move up to 3rd on GC. Other teammate took 4th, moves up to 4th on GC. Still down a bit on power and HR.
Sunday Crit: 8-10 or somewhere around there. Mostly tried to stay safe which included missing a skateboard a drunk idiot let roll across the course, a crash, and a cone that got knocked right in front of me. Held serve.
Team takes 1, 3(me), and 4 on GC. That was pretty reflective of who was the strongest and fastest this weekend.
Two hectic days to clean up the bike, fix a bad tire, and get ready for Sea Otter.

Turlock Lake RR. 3/4
Just didn't have the fitness I did a month ago. A break formed on the first lap and I started to go with it but I realized that there was no way I was going to be able to ride in a break for 45 more miles. Luckily a teammate bridged up to the break and it stuck. I just focused on saving watts. Got into difficulty with about 12 to go and actually got dropped in the cross wind but I was fortunate that the road turned into the wind, I buried myself and finally caught back on. The guy at the back looks at me and says, Holy crap, did you just catch back on? I couldn't even talk.
Anyway, teammate in the break got 4th, another 10th, and I finished with the chase group which was a pretty awesome result considering my crap legs.

caloso,
Nice effort on the catch. I was guttered in a race last year, and chased solo for six miles, to finally get back on. Not fun, not fun at all.

You forgot sitting int the cold river watching some guys smoke dope. I think he had the category wrong. They were P/1s. 4s would be hustling home to get ready for their hot date that night.
