I am not sure what happened with the rear derailleur but its probably the STI connection to the satellite shifters.

I was in the same 45+ race, with somewhat similar results, although I don't have a technical excuse. I did make two attempts to get away that resulted in pulling the field around a bit, although I do think that the second one resulted in some separation for a lap or so.
My form is not so good since the crash, and this was my first race back, but I still tried to do two. The second race was immediately following the first and was faster (35+). I missed my clipin, missed it again, missed it a third time, and a fourth.
Finally I got in, and had to sprint a long time to catch on. Then I was behind a rider who was destined for OTB, so again comes the catchup out of the (now nearly empty) bottle.
The third time was the end of it. I clearly had brought legs for one race, and one race only. I finished three laps and left in disgust. Went for an excessively long after-race ride to get my head clear. Fortunately wasn't called for doping control (somehow I didn't think they were going to call people who got shelled after 3, but I guess we were all supposed to check the board following the race, and I didn't).
After my long ride was over, the next field (2/3) was about halfway done. If two races wasn't gonna happen....yeah, three races in one day wasn't gonna happen either. Then they called in two more riders from that field for doping control. I guess it was mostly podium people.
Those are those people who look like ants up the road at the end.
Sounds like things just didn't quite bounce your way, Shovel. But hey, you will always have that big win to cherish, and of course try to replicate.
Waiting until I see results to post on my RR today, as I didn't stick around since I was far enough back for it not to matter and it was a 3+ hour drive home. NOT in climbing form!
Raced at LAVRA at Velo Sports Center. Here is the short and long version. There were three of us in the 60 - 64 group. I creamed one guy in the 500 and he killed me in the pursuit. The other guy beat me in the 500 and I am not sure how he did pursuit. However, we all know each other and like to hang out. It was a fun day at the track. I had a very good time considering my Fred training and I even drug the starting gate which means starting before it releases.

My races right now are for training, as up until 2 weeks ago, I was riding only a couple of hours per week. But the job is on track, I seem to have resolved my leg issues, and I have a working race bike that fits, so I'm back at it, regardless of outcome. Results aren't posted yet, but that could be days.
I rode the course Saturday afternoon in glorious 70* weather. Bod omen, as when I awoke this morning it was raining, and 55*. The rain continued, with intermittent breaks, all day. I was wearing a San Remo kit, with a couple of base layers underneath. and was quickly soaked, but never chilled. Worst part was having my shoes full of water. Plan was to sit in but be sure not to miss a significant split. Of course sitting in meant a rooster tail in your face, but when you're already soaked, well <shrug>. Sitting in was hard to do, not because of the challenge, but because the pace was slow, with the pack acting like it was a not-too-fast group ride. Average speed for the race was something like 22mph. With only one climb of note (Cat 4) and only 53 miles, that's fairly sedate. On the downhill that levels out for a bit before the climb, I couldn't resist testing the waters a touch, so I stretched it out a bit. EVen without a hard break type effort (I believe I was only pushing mid 200's?) I was quickly about 40 yards out. But they did slowly reel me in, and I relaxed to recover for the hill. I was still dropped by the lead group on the hill, but chased back on over the next 10 miles, bringing a couple with me.
Back to the sedate pace, and this time around, I just worked up to the front for the start of the climb. Dropped worse. I chased. Hard. One weird factor in this race is a neutral zone through the Mormon Lake Village. No passing. Both the first and second times through there was someone enjoying a 'less-than-sedate' pace that prevented using that zone and flat area to advantage. When I could finally go again, I collected a few guys and actually got a chase group organized.. briefly. But there were guys who just couldn't pull. I bore the brunt of that, and put in probably my best effort of the day. Net result though was me getting what was left of the dwindling chase group close enough for them to bridge as i exploded. :/ So I was alone for quite awhile, until I caught a teammate, and slapped my butt as I came by. He can out climb me (right now anyway; not normally) but I am faster on the flats and downhill. I told him to take the climb and later the rollers as fast as he could. He did, and I would then catch him and pull him along. We did that for half a lap through to the finish, where we nipped a few 40+ers that were flagging at the end.
So, all in all, it was a good effort, and fun despite the rain. I'm looking forward to doing this race when I have some form and am able to be aggressive.
AzTR - Cool! Riding in 55* weather, even wet, just sounds so...delicious, since even at sunrise it's still in the mid-70s here with high humidity. Good to hear that your leg problems have straightened themselves out as well. Sounds like an usually slow race - maybe everyone else was using it for training as well? Then again, in a place that doesn't get much rain, all the oil, dirt and other stuff that builds up on roads floats up when it does rain, so the road could've been pretty slick.

This is my team race report for the Castro Valley ITT yesterday. It was ugly. Ex was there, and he followed me a bit in his car. His comments were that it wasn't good. The new bike was all screwed up, but I know what need to do. The season is now over. I might run a 10k race in late October before Ex takes me back under his wing in November.
I raced the Castro Valley summer ITT yesterday. It was a 20k course, uphill out, and downhill back. The course was really hard, lots of twisties, and many short, sharp rollers, with one long false flat. I won my age group, but it sure wasn't pretty. I had a snail pace time of 38 and change, which is nothing but slow. I was about six minutes off of the pace I had for the Senior Games 20k ITT I did in June. I was riding my new Felt B16, which is bone stock, except for the saddle and crank. The fitting I had was incomplete, and therein lie the issues. I kept sliding up the saddle and my arms kept sliding back on the pads. I burned a huge amount of energy trying to hold position on the bike. I finally gave up and rode the bullhorns on the climb.
This was my last race for this season. I may join you fellas next year for another season with MBRT, but I may go with a team with more active women racers, instead. No matter what I do, this has been a learning, building, surprising season for me. I knew it was going to be hard breaking into racing as a 60+ woman, especially riding in the Cat 4 ranks with all the kids. I love a challenge, and I had many of those! I did far better than I expected this past year, and towards the end of it I was holding my own and even having success. To use an oft repeated cliche' - it's been a hell of a ride!
Nice work sara, even though you didn't have a good race, keep striving to do better, and you will! I gotta say, after a year of fighting with my TT bike, now that it fits, even if my race results aren't any better, I sure do enjoy them a lot more.
Maybe have a chat with LLL about what team would be a good fit for you? I bet she's in the loop with all of them.
Valygrl, thanks!! Yesterday was the pits. Whatever I did, there was no question that I left it out on the course.
I've talked to LLL, and I will some more. Velo Girls is a possibility, so is Cushman & Wakefield. I'd like to be on a team with some 50+ racers, and there are on C&W (HF). I talked with Metromint yesterday (Yuko), and I don't think they'd be a good fit.
Winters RR, 45+ 123. Shelled like a roasted peanut on the climb. I'm going to use this as my motivation to get lean this off-season. My training has been good but my diet is inconsistent. I know what I need to do.

AZT, welcome back. Sara, you had what anyone with any common sense would call a very successful first season of racing. Many people don't medal at any time in their career. Ex, what can I say. Enjoy those G&T's.
