You guys who race with broken cleats... If it was me it would have been a good reason to DNF and end the suffering.

Dual upgrade omnium at indoor VSC. So much fun.
Endurance Omnium:
Sprint Omnium:
Endurance Omnium:
- Points (32x8). Thought a teammate was making a break, but when I caught him, he pulled back. I decided to stay away for a couple laps until the first cut for 5pts. Recovered most of remaining race. I think 1pt at the finish.
- Scratch (20 laps). Had two teammates that broke away fairly early, and I missed it (bastards). I played the good teammate and stayed at the front blocking. I believe I actually helped them stay away, which was as satisfying to me as a win. I also managed to put the gas on with 2 to go (once teammates safely away) and take 3rd for the sweep.
- Point-a-Lap (10 laps). All the non-endurance guys were gunning for the early points, so the whole race was fast and chaotic. I tailgunned, and picked it up enough at end to grab 2nd at the finish for 2pts.
Sprint Omnium:
- Flying lap (250m, directly from paceline, so no big windup). Ended up with 3rd fastest time, which I was pleasantly surprised with considering all the sprinters that turned out for this one
- 1 mile Scratch Race (6 laps). Shut out. It was immediately after the 32 lap race above, so didn't have any matches to spare.
- Points (15x5). Small break formed at first sprint that carried over to 2nd sprint. I bridged up for the second one (which had the only prime of the day), but didn't quite make it. I then worked with a teammate to stay off the front until the end for 5 pts.

VanceMac. Great racing but more importantly fantastic preparation at Encino and Roger's Sessions. We will be at the 4PM session tomorrow.

Sounds like some strong riding VanceMac, and fun!
I don't know track for diddly, but I'd love to give it a whirl someday.

Thanks guys! I know I have all the annoying exuberance of a recent convert, but I really do love the omnium format. It is an incredibly engaging combination of speed, diversity, and tactics. To that last point, I feel like I got more tangible tactical experience (breaks, covering breaks, blocking, positioning, when to start a sprint, etc) in one day than a year's worth of crits and road races.

VanceMac, I would never have guessed that when I met you 5 or so years ago on the slopes of Highway 39 that you would become a trackie. Good for you! Exuberance is good and keep up the active (aggressive?) racing. Soon I'll be able to say, "I remember back when he was..."

VanceMac, I would have thought that you would have enough race days to upgrade to a four.

Eagle Island Cross #1 9/29
B Flight W/12 master 45's and 27 cat 4's --------- 6 laps @ ~45'
I was jicky-jacking around before the start, thinking that they would have Call-Ups............nope, end of the line for me. No biggy, last years series winner was back there with me. What we didn't know, was that two guys who usually race the A flight were up front as well as a former cat2 roadie, stealth racer. Our race was over within 150 meters.
The start was a 125 meter straight, followed by a hair-pin and three barriers. I knew that the first time through would be ugly, so I just marked my guy and let the mob duke it out amongst themselves. I came out of the barriers about 8 back of my guy. The next part of the course had some mild off camber turns over small roots that allowed me to make up a couple spots, followed by a lonnnnnng, fast, back stretch where I bridged-up. We settled in and started picking off racers at a steady clip, thinking that that by the end of lap three, we had passed all the masters and where racing for the win. Nope, the top three had cleared the bottleneck at the start, and where gone.
On the last lap, he bobbled in the sand, and I was able to stay in front through the last twisty, hilly part of the course.
4/12 45+
~ 10/39 overall
On the plus side, it turns out that I won the Cat 2 50+ XC Championship in one of the local Mtb. series, and the promoter gave me my medal before the race. ( I was in Bend when they where handed out )
I think this is the last lap after the sandpit, and last years series winner is right behind me.

Nice result nacler22! Sand can be a race killer when it's too close to the finish to recover.

Nice job on both, Nacler. I tried looking up BCC (which I assume is Boise Cycling Club?)... is that kit a Mapei tribute??

Thanks AJ,
Last year this course had my number, but the lay-out for this race was almost perfect for me. Short, steep hills, following sharp turns right after the sand really played to my "strengths".
To bad I didn't have my head in the game before the race started.

That is a Boise Cycling Club kit. They are new this year, and I really don't know where they came up with the colorway. The first time I saw someone with one this spring, my first thought was " Hey, it's the Good Humor guy"
I'll ask Troy next race if he knows what the scoop is.
In case my picture caption was somewhat cryptic, I'm in the Look Save a Life kit.
