I think my start was normal for me. I have done 5 x 500TT's in races this year. Yesterday's 40.8 effort was next to slowest. I have done 38.8 and 39.2 also. We were started in pairs. There was a 10 - 15 mph breeze from the North. I started on the home stretch with the wind at my back(no help there), then into my face when I needed to make speed. The home straight had the wind at my back then into my face to finish. In pursuits we race multiple laps and the 500 is 1 and 1/2 laps at Indy. It didn't seem equal for the racers to start in pairs but that is the way it rolled.

That is very surprising, and agree unfair. Not cool.

Dupe post from the 33

Lookout Mountain Hill Climb SW4, 9th/34

Really happy with this top-10 result, as I'm just not that great a climber, and I fully buried myself to achieve it. Also felt like I raced reasonably smart in terms of staying out of the wind and attacking the girl I was with near the finish at the right time in order to get away from her.

Set some new PR power numbers. Still coughing up bits of my lungs, hours later.

A condition commonly known as "track hack".

Great job!

This is a reason not to take championship races too seriously or think that it is always fair. My experience is that USA cycling and UCI do many things that are unfair to some riders. It is the luck of the draw. At Worlds my opponent pulled out of his pedal after 25 meters and UCI did a double shot stopping the race after I did a full power one lap. I asked if I could have time to recover or be placed at the end of the riders and they said no. I had to race immediately. I thought that sucked and was totally unfair. And thinking something is unfair only defocuses one from the task at hand and makes results even worse. So one has to be philosophical.

This is true. Still stings. It wasn't a championship race, but the group I was in got pulled after a pair of pros lapped the field. Everyone else was allowed to stay. We were not rolling around, we were working hard together. So I got to sit on the sidelines and watch my teammate take primes.

Bannock Crit, SW4, 3rd/21

30 minutes, flat figure-8 south of downtown Denver. 7:30 am start + long drive = I wasn't sure I was even going to this, but this racing stuff is addictive. 1 team mate. Another team had 6 girls in the field and there were some other pairs.

I felt surprisingly good today, I expected my legs to be shot from yesterday's hill climb, but they were OK for short efforts. one gal on the well-represented team went off the front for the first prime, and the pack let her sit out there by herself for a long time. My team mate initiated a bridge attempt & I went with her, and the pack chased us down. Hindsight: should not have gone with her, the 2 of us out there is too obvious a threat. Idea: I should have let her go and then attacked again after the catch.

Other than that, I rolled a little off the front and towed the pack around at tempo on the next prime lap, got the prime without trying too hard, then sat in. The pace heated up 2 laps to the end, a bunch of people dropped away, and there were 7 of us going thru the last turn, I was 6th. (area for improvement). I sprinted early since I had a lot of ground to make up, and made up some of it, but not quite enough. Team mate got 4th, we crossed the line so close together I had no idea who was over it first.

Smart race, Valygrl. Very well done, indeed.

Legs are fickle things, aren't they?

No way I'd contest a prime in field of W4, not yet. You must be damned fit, girl.

Thanks everyone. It was a great weekend. I am trashed today.

I was having a lot of trouble a few weeks ago, and decided my problem was I was under-trained. I added some training. Seems like it payed off.

@valygrl, yeah, that was a big race weekend with some big results. It's hard to read how training is working (or not working) and you have to keep in mind the micro and macro cycles of work and rest on top of trying to peak for certain races. That's why so many racers have coaches. Speaking of which...

Not to beat a drum (or maybe I am), but look at my progression this year. We all know why, and he's a terrific coach.

Keirin night at Encino. Was fun, but a little light on action. Not enough people in the A's to do a repechage or semi-finals, so only 1 heat then finals... seperated by 1.5 hours. Bleh.

I liked this photo since it has 70's legend Gibby Hatton and current legend Justin Williams. Of course, it would be a little better if that was the final lap, but of course there are 2 to go. I jumped, but couldn't get away.
