It's nice seeing new people here with really nice bikes! Welcome, guys!

Hermes - I like the new Avatar!

Dalai, welcome! Nice stable and nice to see bikes that are about my size. :) Looking forward to hearing about Masters (or Veteran or...) racing in Australia. chasm54 fills us in on the UK scene.

You can never have too many...

I was going to say that the only person with more SRMs is Racer Ex.

Thanks guys. Only stumbled on the Masters section due to the site restructure...

I have been thinking about an SRM for the Colnago and do regularly check the usual places. All three were bought used and have worked flawlessly. These days the old wired models are getting cheap if you get a good deal! I'd probably look at getting a standard and swap the FSA on the TT bike back to compact and fit this to the Colnago.

Colnago was picked up very cheap late last year just before the final CX race of the season. CX is actually quite new down under, with races only appearing in the last couple of years!

I race Masters (there is a separate Vets group with their own races) but other than States or Nationals we usually just race in grades.

In Melbourne - population 4 million we have a huge racing scene. We get some rain, cold weather in winter and can be hot in summer. But no snow to force us indoors for months!

Road

- Summer is crit season with racing possible Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday nights; plus Saturday and Sunday mornings.
- Winter is road season with racing every weekend including TT's. Fortunately there are more TT's appearing and so I was able to race ~20 TT's last year.

Track - here we are blessed. Two world class 250m indoor velodromes (though one is in a multi use venue and really only gets used for World Cups), and another 6 outdoor tracks!

- Year round Tuesday and Thursday nights indoors.
- Summers weekly Saturday afternoon races at my local.
- Winter also some Sunday afternoons indoors.

CX - two series have sprung up with 3-4 races each in Winter.

Actually the hardest thing is to actually give yourself some downtime, as the racing is constant. Summer season hasn't quite finished and the Winter road season has already started etc!

One of my closest friends has something like dozen of them. It's a sight to behold. All custom frames (parlee, firefly, IF) with SRAM SRMs and PC7s.

Even more impressive is the SRM spin bike he bought off the floor when he was out there for Masters Track Nats.

SRM spin bike? That's hard core!

Finally, a race bike! The fit is very close. There is some minor tweaking to do, but the CAAD is now a different bike. The Cosmic wheels ride like nothing I've ever felt before. The bike snaps on acceleration with them on it, and it climbs easy, easy, easy. Now I know what a race bike is supposed to feel like. I need to start riding it like one!

I did a lot better job installing the PT on the CAAD than I did on the Look. The shark fin is on the chain stay, the wire runs underneath the stay. The cadence pickup is on the bottom of the chain stay, and I used a button magnet placed in the hole on the crank for the pedal shaft. The magnet came from a fridge magnet. The wires run up the bottom of the downtube and are held on with clear tape. It's very tidy!

Here are the two setups: Training and Racing.

Love it with the race wheels - good job!

sarals 03-28-13 09:53 PM

Thanks, guys! Now I know what it's like to drive a Ferrari!

valygrl 03-28-13 10:53 PM

Nice! Looks great with the wheels.

Racer Ex 03-29-13 12:31 AM

Just so you know...a friend had those wheels and literally drove his truck over the back wheel.

It did not go out of true.

Terrific looking bike.

Thank you!

I've heard those Cosmics are tough wheels - but they sure are light! I went ahead and bought the Mavic MP3 extended warranty on them, too - just in case.

Valygrl, Shovel, LAJ - thank you!

Cleave 03-29-13 03:23 PM

sarals, yep it for sure looks like a race bike. Enjoy it and use it well.

Thanks she's awfully perty ;) The stable is now complete with Ridley's, Flandrien Excaliber, Dean and the Noah.

Racer Ex 04-22-13 12:55 PM

The picture is blurry. That means the bike is really fast.

Cleave 04-22-13 01:57 PM

TRD, that is definitely very nice! My clubmate, who doesn't race, just got one of those in black with neon green markings. It's a very impressive frameset.
