    About the only thing going well for me this year is my weight. Not where I want to be but I am much closer than I've been able to consistently be for many years.

    I've been snacking too much. 1.6# above race weight. Good thing Sunday's crit (late season race recently added to our calendar) is flat.

    ... anyway, 153.5, on the way from 155 to hopefully 145 (5'9). Targeting 500 cal/day deficit but it's very hard to gauge because we don't eat a lot of packaged food. How many calories in a half cup of fava bean horseradish salad with olive oil?

    Probably overdoing it on the deficit though because yesterday I had the most epic bonk of my life. I felt like I was tripping.

    6 weeks of deprivation and suffering got me from 155 to 151. A week of vacation debauchery: back to 155.

    Yesterday morning: 154. Then I raced an hour, drank literally gallons of water, and consumed about 50 million calories at Peter Luger. This morning: 152.5. All the steak is still in there, too, if you know what I mean.

    I think that's the hardest part of losing weight, the lack of any meaningful short-term indicator of success.

    I try to focus on the longer term trends, and don't consider myself to be at a weight unless I bounce up and down around it over the course of a few days.

    After two days of racing, without lunch on either day, I was at 179 this morning. I think the last time I was that low was high school. Loving it.
