I'm trying to get back down into the climber range, I am normally in there mid-season but put on a couple-three pounds in February. For some reason, February is a tough month for me.
179 this am @ 6'. Was 169 Fort Hood Classic end of last year. Sprinter, decent kick but much more of a 5 and 20 minute. Dang 1 minute is barely cat 4 Been working on it too and no matter what, I can not get it north of 600w...

O yea, back on thread. Used to wrestle @ 145 and 155 in the 80s, joined the Army in 89 at 174, so I guess I am not doing too bad. Just sent that link to my wife, and she is not going to like the name sprinter lol

143 as of this week. I'm not trying to drop weight but things are coming around. FTP is climbing and weight is going down.

Knock on wood..yes! I've been on a probiotic protocol for about 6 months now and it's been awesome. No more prescription drugs, been very careful about my caffine intake as well. Seems to be working. I'm a little worried about losing too much more weight though, I'm eating appropriately and still losing.

Yeah I think so, between my recovery shake and my meals I'm getting plenty. My gut has slowed down enough that I'm processing my fuel much better as well.

5' 8", 149 - 151 depending on what I eat the night before...should I be going for the super-skinny look? The only "race" I have coming up is a Gran Fondo with 8k of climbing.

I think you have the build for that 8K of up!

138 after the ride today. I'm going in the right direction.

141 as of this morning. I'm starting to look a little like Chris Froome...not yet Michael Rassmussen but this is about as light I as I want to get.

Oh, never mind...I only THOUGHT I was going in the "right" direction.

I hate my body. Did I mention that?

I was at my 188# target a few days ago (let's hear it for base phase!), so I declared victory and stopped weighing myself.

I find it easier to lose # when I am riding my own rides at my own pace and emphasizing calorie deficit as higher priority than on-bike performance. The cycling year I took off 30# I decreased my mileage and rode 3 intense short rides each week with recovery days. With the shorter rides there was less chance on bonking out in the middle of nowhere, and fewer temptations to overfuel to try to keep up with faster cyclists.

RR, I was 5'6" / 140# back in 1993. It was an unsustainable weight for me although I liked the look (other than the loose skin). Some people said I looked like a body builder. Bodyfat tests showed that I was borderline underfat. I felt better and my times were better at 145# in my ventures in Masters swimming. 145# would be over the max weight for female cycling sprinters and way overweight for climbers.

I have to believe that there are overachievers who are outliers on the stats shown on the charts. The charts account for a couple of factors in success. Consider also the hidden training (nutrition, rest, mental training). Victories are sweeter when you accomplish something that others said were impossible. Believe in yourself.

A couple of weeks ago I did a "fun" 4.5 mile time trial with my club. I was beaten by 6 seconds by a more-experienced fit younger woman who I outweigh by over 100#. There is a tiny climb on the route that cost me the difference (along with lack of a decent warmup, less heat tolerance and some slowing to merge with cars on the open course). We averaged just shy of 21mph. About a mile of that was on rough chipseal that sucks the speed out of me. I wonder how competitive I could be if I even dropped to 145#, or if it would just slow me on the flats and descents that are my current strengths. There's only one way to find out. That time trial has renewed my motivation to drop pounds.

Right now most of my "racing" is through strava. I wish there were more female strava participants in my area. Many of the women in my bike club do not even have a basic speed/distance computer on their bikes, let alone interest in tracking their performance.

I just established a season PR by stretching out eating a whole 48 oz jar of JIF extra crunchy peanut butter to 22 days. Oh Yea! Self control is what I'm all about.

Still fat but finally headed in the right direction. We'll see if the trend continues.
