Seeing the video about the Isle of Man TT made me think of the Norton Manx, which made me wonder if the Commando had been resurrected like the Triumph Bonneville, and it has! Only £15,250 for the Café Racer version. Hopefully it doesn't leak like the original. It's become my "when-I-win-the-lottery-I'm gonna-get-me-one-of-those" motorcycle.

I vividly remember reading a test report on a modified Norton, the "Dunstall Norton 810". I almost traded a pickup for a very out of shape Norton, but somehow I came to my senses, as that would have been a really bad mistake for me at the time.

Hi, here's some race videos from the opening weekend of racing in SoCal at the Ontario, CA, "grand prix" circuit:

Masters 50+/55+ (race together, scored separately):

Masters 45+:

This year a lot of our local crits will be 50+/55+ instead of 55+/60+. I'm not that happy about the change but I'll get to watch Racer Ex from the pack more often this year. It's also going to create a funny race dynamic as the 50+ guys are not racing for series points (SoCal Cup) while the 55+ guys are. There are SoCal Cup points for 35+, 45+, 55+, and 60+(?). Not sure about 60+ this year as there will be very few races with that age category.

Also, this is my favorite industrial park circuit in SoCal.

Oh, my, but those youngsters are fast! Cleave, I was looking for your kit in those videos.

What was the outcome of that crash in the second video? I'm hoping everyone was okay??

I make an appearance screen left at 30:48 in the 50+ vid. Blue SOS kit, white Catlike helmet.

At the front for most of the race. Pulled from 1.5 to .5 laps to go chasing down a flyer.

Very, very envious watching bicycle racing while sitting in frozen Ohio. I like that guy's speedometer! Sitting on the line it is showing 4.3 mph.

Interesting that when you come past, Ex, you could have slotted in way up front, something like 2 or 3, but chose to drift back a bit further, either deciding there was no need to be at the pointy end at that point, or there was a particular wheel you wanted to be on. Those of us less savvy tend to try and get as far up as we can for fear of not being able to get back up there later. We then waste energy (including nervous energy) trying to maintain that position. You clearly had no trouble returning to the front when you wanted to, without pushing air to do so.

Thanks for posting those Cleave!

Hi, same race weekend as what I posted before, but the Pro/1/2/3 race. Also the video is edited (meaning you won't have to sit for an hour to watch):

Thankfully there's not as much contact in our races.

If you watch at 31:20 or so I've got two of my guys heading up the road so I force a gap. I stop pedaling and make the other guys come around while I slide back and try to keep things single file. Too often people get that "dog chases car" mentality and close gaps on their own teammates who might otherwise establish a break.

I slide back in and re-integrate far up enough that if the break does get established, I can move if something dangerous develops or counter if the break happens and then gets caught.

With two of us already heading up the road it's enough of a red flag, three would be "all bets off" that day, conditions were easy. Had we had an ugly crosswind I might have kept going.

Quick video I did for my son's appearance at San Dimas Stage Race. This is stage 3: the crit.

He's using a Mobius helmet cam shooting 1080p 30fps. I used Dashware to overlay the data, then used Adobe Premier to cut & add music.

I shied away from the finish as it was a bit disappointing for him. The video was also intended more for friends/family that have absolutely no clue about racing.

For some reason, YouTube also boxed the video and so cut off some of the data fields. I'll have to play with settings & figure it out.

Nice! Great narrative!! What was the category of that field? Bike skills looked really good.

This is the Juniors 17-18 race.

He gets a little gun-shy in the finish of the race. Even though I know he has the power/speed to get a top-result, he backed off with 2 corners to go. He told me he gets a bit leery/scared because he sees some of these guys bumping & such earlier and he doesn't trust them.

His skills are good--much better than mine. We regularly train with cat 1s & 2s and regional pros and he has no problem sprinting against them or even doing bump drills with them (Andy Lakatosh and Justin, Cory & CJ Williams, Frank Schroeder & rest of the BBI Team--maybe you've heard of them?) in the middle of the pack at 25mph. Even last night at the Rose Bowl Ride (local, very fast training ride) he was bumped, run into, and had some guy sweep his wheel with actual contact (all at the front of the pack, making me think it was intentional or even a conspiracy thing!). But in these races where he doesn't know the other riders, he mentally freezes and can't finish it off.

So if anyone has any sport psychology that may help... I've tried visualization & encouragement (took Sports Psych 101 in college, lo these many years ago!), but I'm not always the best instructor/coach when it comes to this topic.

No wonder they were so strong and fast! Recovery? We don't need no stinkin' recovery!

Very impressive!

I was in this race last weekend. Did the 55+ race first and did the 50+ for training. Didn't watch the entire video carefully and never saw myself:

They said there were over 80 racers on the start line.
