Timing Chips at the Velodrome

The indoor Burnaby Velodrome (near Vancouver, BC) is borrowing Cycling BC's Race Replay electronic timing system for the fall & winter. The system was installed a couple of weeks ago, and it's like having a coach with a stopwatch recording every lap you do! Here's a link to my results from last night's structured training session (you have to navigate to the Oct 31 evening coached workout): http://racereplay.burnabyvelodrome.ca/workouts.pl

I'm chip # "L6." It's a 200-meter track, so those are all 200-meter times for every lap I rode, including warmups and recovery. I was on 48x15. The track has a few extra transponders available that riders can borrow for the session. Canada's other indoor track, the 138-meter Forest City Velodrome in London, Ontario, is using the MyLaps system, and they're getting lots of detailed info, here's a link to some of their results: http://www.mylaps.com/results/showru...586&perclass=0

MyLaps uses more expensive chips (about $100 each), but the web pages are way fancier! Burnaby only charges $50 if you want to buy one, or you can just borrow one for the session. I'm sure we'll figure out better ways to present the data; we're just getting started with this technology right now!

And here's a photo of my track bike with the borrowed transponder attached. It's got a rubber band that just goes around the fork:

That would be some good additional data if we had that at the Velo Sports Center.

Think that is the only indoor velodrome on the west coast,

LA Olympics probably scrapped theirs..

The Portland, The build a Casino on the old dog track ballot initiatives, will go down in flames ..

That is where they should build a Velodrome, maybe, go Keirin Japan style ,

heck, to pay for it, include the betting windows part of their plan.

Roger has on bike electronics with a wireless hookup to a tablet. He has been testing it for some time. His goal is to have it for some of his athletes once he knows it works and the price is affordable. He can see cadence, power, lap time, HR and etc as you ride around the track.

I know the whole system isn't cheap, but I believe there would be enough interest to support it. I'll bet they could even fund it with a kickstarter-like effort.
