I want to get into Mountion Cross, but can some one tell me how I get into a sport like this?? I have never done it before But I would like go to go watch. If you live like in B.C can you tell me some events that take place.

It is fairly easy to get started i recommend getting a NORBA card they give you brouches as to races and they are a great company

Sorry I haven't been a better wealth of information. We're scrambling trying to get ANY kind of gravity event going in Spokane for this season. Now this won't be mountaincross, but I wanted to fly this by you to see if you MTX/4X-ers would show up for something like this:

A not-so-technical Dh-like course ribboned off as wide as a MTX course, hopefully about 2-3 minutes in length. No perfectly-groomed bermed corners or built-up jumps, but maybe some small drop-offs, etc, then run races 4-up. Practice Sat/race Sun. Only one timed run Sun am to set seeding, then the rest is bracketed 4-up head-to-head with heats/ semis/mains to sift out the final four. Think of it as an old-skool motorcycle rough-scrambles on a hillside. I envision this as a high-speed handlebar-bangin' any-line-to-the-bottom race. Would the mountaincrossers be game for a race like this?

We are in the planning stages of putting on such a race possibly at Beacon, if we can find enough open terrain to mark out a course. There are a couple other venues around Spokane we are scoping out as well. What do you say, BentBiker?

That sounds pretty sweet. I ride hardtail so the 4x is my thing. However if the course was "hardtailable" I'd certainly be there. I'm pretty sure that I could convince some of my buddies that are into the whole downhill scene to go over there with me.

Just for attracting the gerneal public...you will probably get more people if the event is large enough to have multiple categories (beginnner->pro). As stated above some mountainxers will most likely be shy about doing such and event because they ride hardtails. (Hmm...Hardtail division would be cool?). If you can't find anything around Spokane you might try snoqualmie or steven's pass. that would be the ideal location for gravity eventslike this.

Thanks for working to put together an event like this. Keep me posted on whats happening. If there is anything happening on the west side I would be especially interested.

All the mtnxers on the west side are crying for an event. There's just absolutely nada going on over there. To answer your other question: yes, wherever it's held, the course would be hardtail-friendly. The goal is to get some racing action going and not be all fussy about whether the course is all that technical. Not big drops or jumps, but lots of just rough, ungroomed ground, off-camber corners and stuff. I'll keep info posted in the Racing forum as things take shape.
