endurance racing

I posted this in the standard mountain biking forums, and then I realized that that was dumb, so Ill let racers handle this. I am in love with endurance mountain bike racing. I have done one 12 hour race, and it was absolutely amazing (winning wasnt bad either), but I need a new bike. that one was a loaner, and I want to do some offroad training on something other than a cross bike. so. what to get. is the rollover advantage of 29 inch wheels worth it? I am a bit of a roadie and love cyclocross, so I like the large wheels, and have never cared for full suspension, but have never done anyreally long really bumpy rides. I have seen people riding hardtail steel frames with big wheels and lot air to take some of the kick out of the rocks. I am a bit heavier than some (about 185) and I like steel. Is there a right or wrong answer to this, or does it just come down to preferance? what are you guys riding?

I'd say preference. I've always ridden on 26s, and I really want to try some 29s, but I firmly believe its just preference. Wheel size will not determine winning or losing.

well, if you are riding a frame that is bigger than 'M' 29'er might be the way to go!

but for me, its just too big!
