Boulder Short Track Series Race #2, a race Report.
Every wednesday here in Boulder, CO they run a short track race (15-20mins of sprinting on a course roughly a mile) at the CU research park, the course is always fun, with short steep climbs and lots of twisty single track as well as fast banked turns, jump options and other fun obstacles. (www.boulderracing.com)
This being my first time out I knew I had to start in the 'C' class. I got my self situated towards the back for the start, since I was not sure what to expect out of the gate(My only other comp experience being 1 XC race and 1 XTERRA Tri). In the future I will not be so worried about the start, I lost more time once we funneled into the single track than was possible to make up.
The start was a long wide open sprint that lead right into some tight single track caused a huge bottleneck. I believe there were between 30-40 riders in my class, so when this hapenen the leaders were able to get some huge gains. Once the field stretched out I was able to pick off a few riders who got a better start than I did.
Being that the race is 15-20 mins of all out sprinting it was hard to judge what a good pace would be, I didn't want to burn out too soon or not use enough and finish lower than I could have. With that said I was able to sprint to the finish bar to bar with another rider who was well over 100yards ahead going into the last lap, just after I crossed the line the announcer said "the camera showed 614 across first and the camera never lies" (I was 692...) oh well, all in all it was a blast and although they haven't posted the results I think I was top 20 and I'll no for sure this wedsnesday when they have Race 3 (my second).
Edit: Found out I was 31 out of 44, worse than I thought and only top 30 get points, just missed it! Just gonna have to push harder this week and work my way up.
