Low spoke count?

Im considoring getting a giant xtc 3 (uk) but i'm not sure about the low spoke count. I've heard these types of wheels result in a very harsh ride and need very regular truing. Is this the case or should they be ok? Any other problems with them?

Depends on what you are gonna do, and make sure you get dt swiss spokes, at this point, many of the crappy spokes are gonna break.

Just a bit of fairly light cross country, nothing too serious.

It also depends on your weight and style of riding. As long as you are not too heavy for the wheels, I'd be more concerned about the ability to maintain them. Are the spokes proprietary, or are they off the shelf? Are they laced in some exotic way or can any wheel builder repair them?
