Mountain Bike Shipping
Does anyone know what the stock weight of a 2003 Marin Nail Trail is? Just wondering because I am thinking of sending my baby from Utah (where I have been going to school) to North Carolina (where my family lives). Taking it on the airplane is $80, but I don't know how much it is elsewhere. $80 doesn't sound like much fun to me. Any ideas or suggestions would be great. Thanks a bunch.

Thanks. I actually am going to send it through USPS. My bike weighs about 27 pounds, and USPS will ship it all for about $25. That's the cheapest I've found, and it'll only take a week to get from Utah to NC.

I think I made a mistake somewhere, because apparently USPS won't ship my bike. I'll try UPS now.

Throw the stick!!!!
Keep in mind these places don't go by weight they go by size when shipping bikes. A bike is generally considered to weigh 80 pounds when shipping. Use as small of a box as possible. Also, FedEx is much more reliable and cheaper than UPS.

I ended up mailing it in a bike box from an lbs. It cost 59 bucks--dhl came out to be the cheapest option. Anyway, it's cheaper than paying 80 to take it on the plane with me. I'll let you know if the box gets to NC with the same number of pieces I sent it with.

monkey69 - if you don't have one I would recommend buying or renting a trico bike case for the trip. A lot of lbs's will rent them for a pretty reasonable price. It is definately worth it.

I'm actually going home for the summer and will probably end up selling my bike at the end of the summer on ebay. Renting a bike case would not have worked. Anyway, it's on its way there now. Thanks, though.
