"Hopping" with Clipless Pedals?
I'm really thinking of getting clipless pedals because I've heard that one big advantage is the ability to "hop" a lot easier. I have a hybrid bike, but I want to be able to hop up on curbs and things like that. Reality or no?

You can do just as well by popping the front up on the curb and unloading the rear so It can touch the curb on the way up..
A true bunny hopper can do it on flats
I rode clipless for two seasons, I am back on flats and much happier now ......

You won't be able to gain much height unless you can do a bunnyhop properly to begin with. If you are moving with any decent speed and time your hop wrong or don't get high enough, you'll slam your rear tire rather hard on the curb you were trying to clear which might pinch flat the tire or bend the rim.
Osco's suggestion is a good one. Keep your flats and lift the front tire over the curb, and roll slowly in a low (easy) gear to the curb then pedal over it. Piece of cake.
Keep practicing bunnyhops. When you can do it right, sure, clear the curb.

Thanks for the tips. I'll learn how to bunnyhop. Surely YouTube has plenty of videos waiting to teach a 42-year-old dude. :-)
