Will I survive with single wall rims?

Hi, new to mountain biking. Im a road cyclist just getting into the sport after moving next to a couple of mountain bike trails here in Florida. Have several bikes I'm looking at. Some with single and some with double wall rims. I will be riding through lots of mud and water. Supporting my local economy and will be buying my bike at a shop not online. The two bikes I'm looking at is Fuji Nevada 1.9 29er ($410) and Giant Revel 29er ($525) my question, will i be happy with the Fuji with only single wall rims? I'm going to beat the hell out of one of these bikes on a weekly basis.

I would buy the Giant for a variety of reasons.

Regarding the rims specifically, it depends on your weight and how much air you put in the tires. Heavy riders and those obsessed with very low tire pressure are the ones who tend to have the most trouble with denting or destroying rims.

I wouldn't go with single wall, lower end rims. The rims that I've seen have serious failures were all single wall. I just tried to salvage one today from a donation bike that my church has. Couldn't do a thing with it, the rim is toast. I'm sure there are examples of double wall rims failing, but they take a lot more punishment. Even some of the pricier Wally World bikes now have double wall rims.
As for the two options given, I'd go with ColinL's recommendation and buy the Giant.

Mind you, I don't recommend this - - but for the record, this single-wall front rim survived through the day I retired the bike from racing:

Don't beat the bikes, Learn to ride 'Light'. Help the bike over the nasty stuff.
Manual the bad bumps, learn to bunny hop and if your rims fail, $600 buys a pair of Stan's Flow ZTR wheels with Hope hubs,,

I started on a low spec Hard Tail bike, never did any damage.

I'd be more concerned with the SunTour Forks that come on bikes in that price range..

Also, since I am in Florida, I will be riding under knee deep swamp water on some of these trails. Also, going to look at some Treks tomorrow. Marlin 5 and X-Caliber 5 & 6.
I believe the Marlin 5 29er is not a good bike to upgrade.
