I need some advice on my drive train,

Im riding a 24 speed
Deore rear : Acera Front ( YUCK )
stock Giant Cranks
Shimano V-Brake shifters
Sram cassette
dunno about the chain

alright, well basically money = $0
What should i do about my crappy drive train?!?

It shifts really clunky, I utterly hate my cranks although i havent really had a problem with them

Im in a sport so i cant get a job till june
also im busy with school

can anyone give me ideas or help?!

anyone got spare parts they could send me? if its better than what i got?

tune your rear derailur and just check your drivetrain for wear. if your cassette has wear it will cause you chain to slip. if its worn and you do get a new one get a new chain too. like i said it could be a simple as the derailur being out of tune.

Any recomendations as far as parts go?

I mostly ride basic XC - to very technical XC and light downhill

if you want to replace stuff then get a shimano cassette and sram components(the higher the number the better)x.0 the best and i think x.3 the worst. sram now has a front derailur so you can get that too(not sure how well it works since this is the first year for it, mabey someone here has tried it) race face and truvataiv have some sweet cranks mabey check their websites out. if you do go sram you will have to get new levers because sram doesnt make combination levers(i think)

and you should be able to get a job i have one and i played hockey all winter and am starting soccer soon. although between school sports biking and work im busy 8 days a week. but its worth it

i figure, getting the Sram combo weather its x.9 or x.0 [SRAM combo being rear derailler and shifter] The shifters will be 9 speed so ill need to get a 9 speed cassette, am i right?

You say it shifts really "clunky". Are you sure that you have the tension adjusted properly? Even on the "yucky" Acera front, many people would be surprised how well it can shift if it is well lubed, mounted to the post correctly, and has the proper cable tension.

The problem with the Acera is probably durability more than anything (IMO), but when it is adjusted properly it is a remarkably simple and effective front der that is somewhat under-rated for general (read: not hardcore) use.

Are you riding a Yukon?

just get x.7. Theres no difference besides 20 grams and 20 dollars. You can get the whole setup (SRAM x.7 shifters+derailleur) for 79.95 on price point and I will tell you its money well spent. Plus consider this, that is just a little over the cost of the XT derailleur alone

X.7 and X.9 are the same?

Yep, i think the x.9 is something like 20 grams less. For the price of the x.7 trigger shifter+derailleur combo it cannot be beaten

what would be better

XTR rear XT front
or
X.7 rear XT front

I know the XTR is a lot more, its just i dont know if i can trust SRAM,

What is the X.7 equivlant to in SHimano? LX?
X.9 = XT?
X.0 = XTR?

you can trust SRAM almost everybody that goes too sram never goes back. i know when i break my derailur im gunna get either an x.7 or a x.9
