Which disc brake?

Which of the following you'd recommend for xc riding:
Hayes hfx-9, Magura JULIE or shimano deore xt hydraulic disc brake? i think of julie (o've ridden hs33 for 3 years and i trust magura brand), and they're the cheapest? what do you think?

For normal purpose just pick up some BB7's Hayes Hydros are nice, and some incredible stopping power, but the BB7's will work just about the same for anyone under 250lb

I really dig my Julie's. I haven't put much mileage on them but so far they're great. I really like the fact that they use mineral oil instead of brake fluid.

Getting them set up perfectly centered took a little while and some elbow grease to make shims, but they've been hassle free since.

I haven't had to change pads yet but it looks like it will be a breeze.

I would hate to have to be adjusting the mechanicals all the time like I've heard.

Cheers

I just bought a set of XT hydros, and after my research, I think they are the best for MY needs. If you're on a tight budget, and dont worry too much about weight, then the Avid BB7s should work perfectly fine.

I wanted something for cross country racing, so weight was somewhat on top of my priority, and that is why I went with the XTs for the light weight, excellent modulation, and available spare parts.

Best of Luck

Ming

what makes you think you would have to do that ?correct me if i am wrong but hydros and mech. disc brakes are pretty much the same thing except for the transfer of energy.
i adjusted mine once when i got it and they are fine ever since .

That's why I said "I've heard". I thought you had to adjust for pad wear.

They have extremely good modulation, and power when you need it. IMO, they also have the best lever feel of brakes I have used/tried (Hayes, avid mech and juicy, shimano) I have not tried maguras though.

Plus, they look trick!

well thats why i said correct me if i am wrong
could be that they have slightly higher pad wear ,but that should be insignificant .

I've been looking into getting hydraulic discs. I was originally going to get Avid juicy 7's, but after reading reviews on mtbr.com i'm kind of scared.
After reading the reviews i was considering Hope mini's, though it sounded like they discontinued the good model and replaced it with Hope mono mini's. The reviews weren't as good for those.
Weight is a concern with me, i basically want something under 400g.
On mtbr.com it seems like most people have lots of problems with all the hydro's. But then again its usually the complainers that have the motivation to leave reviews.
I'm probably gonna end up asking my local shop what they recommend, but any suggestions would help.

Maelstrom is actually using the Juicy 7's for DH runs right now.

You might want to PM him.

The Juicy 7s fixed the chattering problem with the new rotor, so that isn't an issue anymore.

Brakes under 400g for the entire system:

1) Hope Mono Mini
2) Magura Marta SL / Marta
3) Shamino XT/XTR combo (XT is a bit more than XTR)

I went with option 3 because my LBS said they can get me any part I want for the Shimano system....
