The only shock with the name "Rancho" that I can find deals with automotive shocks for off-roading etc. They might make specialty bicycle shocks(It is a "Jeep" bicycle), but I have never read a review or heard anything else about this brand of shock.

Had one of these come into the shop for some repairs. If you're looking for a lightweight XC bike, this aint it! If you're looking for a shuttle-only freeride bike on a budget this IS it! I wasn't too sure about the quality, but it came spec'd pretty well with a combo of LX and XT parts, the brakes were mechanical discs (Pro-Max - I think!) and didn't have a good feel to them. The frame seemed o.k., some of the welds were a little cobby, but nothing structurally deficient. The fork was a no name knock-off, but seemed ok. The stem handlebar seatpost and seat were all a brand I've never heard of, and seemed heavy.
This bike weighed at least 45 lbs. If you're going to ride it where there are some chain lifts, great. Or if you're a hammer-head and want to pedal this thing around, go for it! I personally would get something a little lighter and more uphill friendly. L8R |
Usually the Jeep bikes are overpriced for what you get. Their target audience seems to be uninformed Jeep owners perusing the 4wd aftermarket catalogs. Here's what you get:
FRAME: Suspension all alloy REAR SHOCK: Monroe air/oil, coil over with 1100 LBS. coil FORK: Rancho Air/oil/coilspring single crown with 120mm of travel HEADSET: Alloy threadless with headlock system CRANKS: Suntour 22 x 32 x 44T/175mm DERAILLEURS: Shimano XT/ front XT rear SHIFTERS: Shimano XT rapid fire 9 speed BRAKES: Hayes mechanical disc brakes CHAIN & COGSET: KMC Z-9000/Shimano deore 9 speed 11-32T HUBSET: Alloy Black 20mm through axle front/cassette rear RIMS: Anodized black alloy double walled rims with stainless eyelets SPOKES: cp 14 guage TIRES: Kenda Koyote front and rear 26" x 2.10" PEDALS: SP-2512 MTB HANDLEBARS: Amoeba alloy Jy-192 with 40 mm rise STEM: Amoeba alloy Jy-909 80mm extension SEATPOST: Amoeba alloy Jy-101p6 30.0 X300mm SADDLE: Jeep padded MTB EXTRAS: CPSC reflector kit COLOR: Shining blue/Glitter silver SIZE: 18" Rancho is a well know shock/lift manufacturer in the aftermarket Jeep industry, but I had no clue they made bike forks as well. Same with Monroe. House brand bars/stem/post, and no name rims, although it does have XT and Hayes discs. but I think you could do better for the $$. .MTBJeeper (wondering if he just committed blasphemy by dissing a Jeep product) |
