Buying bike on a budget
Hi all, I'm new to this forum but I'm hoping some of the more experienced people here could help me. I'm currently shopping around for a new mountain bike because I want to start hittin the trails around my house on the weekends. Anyway, im a teenager in a low paying job.. so I'm not gonna be able to afford anything wild, but I'm looking for a good solid bike between $500-$800, probably a hardtail. Anyways, if anyone can let me know what some of the best deals in that price range are I'd really appreciate it, so far I've looked at a Raleigh M80 '05 and a Gary Fisher Tassajara '05. if you could let me know what you think of those and give your own suggestions I'd be grateful.

you can get a good solid bike for that price easy. There is a big difference between the $500 and the $800 range so if you can actually afford an $800 I'd start looking there. I have a Gary Fisher Tassajara and I can't say anything bad about it. I freakin' love it and it's about $650, so you can do better than that if you want. Look around, check specialized and giant too, they make good bikes. Be sure to ride the Tass though, I love the geometry but some hate it.

I just picked up a specialized hardrock comp disc for $500. I'm by no means an expert on the subject, but it seams to be a great bike for the money.
