Which is Cheaper

Ok so I was looking at the hardrock but I decided that i would need something a lot tougher to handle all the jumping and urban riding stuff i do. Would It be cheaper to just buy the Kona Cowan built all togther or to buy the frame and buy all the same parts. I would want to buy all the parts so i could learn about how everything works on the bike and it would be easier to do maintinince on the bike.
