As all Australians should know and some of you OS people may know, in 2003 an Australian cyclist, Ian Humphrey, was killed in a hit and run accident by an ex-police officer turned lawyer, Eugene McGee. McGee had been in a wine district and had drunk a quantity of alchol. After hittin the cyclist, he kept driving then rang one of his lawyer friends for advice. Several hours later, McGee went down to a polic station and turned himself in.

McGee was sentanced not too long ago, his "penalty"? a $3100 fine and 12month suspension of his liscense. State premier, politicians and cyclists all around Aus have been questioning how a man can kill someone and not get a custodial sentance.

On the 7th of May there will be protest rides throughout Australia. Adelaide and Melbourne are definately holding one.

Adelaide 9.30 AM start at Victoria square and ride through the city to parliament house. Bring old drink bottles and write a message in or on the bottle and leave it on the steps of parliament house. This protest ride is sanctioned and police will close roads so there won't be traffic.

Also afterwards the enviromental vandal crew and other Djers will hold a dirt jam after the protest at the city DJ's.

Melbourne Not totally sure about time but start at Fed square and ride to parliament house.

Note you do not to be a MTB rider to go, it was a road cyclist who was killed but all cyclist should stand up together for recognition of our rights on the road, we are not second class citizens on the road, we are equal!

A government funded radio station has a program called HACK, it talks about political problems. On an Aussie cycling forum someone started a thread called, "Warning: This thread will upset you" it was about this story and got over 19 pages og replies, Triple J picked up this and interviewed some riders. We put forward and excellent case and I was quoted from the forum asking why he wasn't charged with manslaughter. That is why there is that charge, he didn't mean to kill the rider, it was unintentional murder = manslaughter.

Here, if you want to kill someone, hit them with your car and say, oh sorry judge, I didn't see him, the sun was in my eye and I was adjusting the radio. YOU WOULD GET OFF!!!!

He got too fines, one for damage caused by driving and one for reckless driving. The two fines added up to $3100, he is actually serving to concurrent 12month liscense losses, so really he has a totlat of 24 months without his liscense but only has it in effect for 12 months

Funky, see if you can organise something, sign up to farkin.net, everyone there will help you, see if you can get something going. I know it's short notice but why not try?

Hopper, I dont know the chances given how apathetic sydney people are, but I've done a post on farkin, we can only hope something spurs a sense of justice into the public.

Good news with the royal commission. It just pisses me off knowing that someone can kill another person and get off with a slp on the wrist.

There are at least 2 active threads in Advocacy and Safety about this. Please do not cross-post this all over forums.

The thread about "Wheels of Justice" bike rallies: "Wheels of Justice" bicycle rallies

The thread about the McGee case in general: Lawyer fined for fatal hit-run!!

I am closing this thread. Any questions, please PM me.
