As all Australians should know and some of you OS people may know, in 2003 an Australian cyclist, Ian Humphrey, was killed in a hit and run accident by an ex-police officer turned lawyer, Eugene McGee. McGee had been in a wine district and had drunk a quantity of alchol. After hittin the cyclist, he kept driving then rang one of his lawyer friends for advice. Several hours later, McGee went down to a polic station and turned himself in.
McGee was sentanced not too long ago, his "penalty"? a $3100 fine and 12month suspension of his liscense. State premier, politicians and cyclists all around Aus have been questioning how a man can kill someone and not get a custodial sentance.
On the 7th of May there will be protest rides throughout Australia. Adelaide and Melbourne are definately holding one.
Adelaide 9.30 AM start at Victoria square and ride through the city to parliament house. Bring old drink bottles and write a message in or on the bottle and leave it on the steps of parliament house. This protest ride is sanctioned and police will close roads so there won't be traffic.
Also afterwards the enviromental vandal crew and other Djers will hold a dirt jam after the protest at the city DJ's.
Melbourne Not totally sure about time but start at Fed square and ride to parliament house.
Note you do not to be a MTB rider to go, it was a road cyclist who was killed but all cyclist should stand up together for recognition of our rights on the road, we are not second class citizens on the road, we are equal!
