Magura MT6 next vs MT4 next

Im about to buy a new set of brakes for my MTB but i couldnt decide between MT4 and MT6...

I dont really care about weight difference but according to Magura specifications, MT6 is more powerfull than MT4..

So do i actually need MT6? I use the bike in the city only.. Is MT6 really more powerful, or is it just a marketing gimmick?

Please help

Go XTR, then RSC, then XT, and way down the list somewhere Magura.

Sorry, I don't usually post up negatives, but I have had two recent bikes with Magura and replaced them within weeks.

XTs are the best value, XTRs are the best I have ever had, RSCs are somewhere in the value to performance mix.

To each his own... you do realize you just suggested several brakes that cost a lot more than the OP's original idea, MT4 Next?

Magura is harder to bleed than average. But the piston doesn't leak like Shimano tends to, and there is no take-up slop. They're quite good.

SRAM Guide brakes, however, we can agree are also good-- I have no problems suggesting the Guide RSC. Or RS for that matter.

Hello,

MT4s are as or more expensive than XTs. I have never known anyone to have problem with Shimano brakes. I had very poor experiences with Magura, very poor performance, twice. That is just my experience. My favorite are XTRs, followed by RSCs. But, XTs are very good brakes. I do agree that they have too much take up, though.

Welcome to a few dozen or more people who have had problems - repeatedly:
XT and XTR brakes get squeal/power loss after sitting idle for 6-8 weeks- Mtbr.com

I'm one of them. My wife's bike actually. It's not the pads. It's leaky calipers.

I had heard about the squeaky brakes, but had not heard that the cause being leaky calipers. However, they are easily the most sold and used brakes for a very long period of time, with a huge number of very happy people. Until the Guides, no other brakes were discussed when the discussion was about best MTB brakes.
