i am thinking about buying the Single Digit Mag's on ebay, but i wonder how they are compared to the current SD product line? my guess is that they lie between the SD7 and the SD SL. is this true?

They're good. Last I checked, they were ligher than the SL & Ti stuff. Avid stopped making them after some production difficulties that resulted in a fire and the death of an employee, but they are a sound product. The ultimate weight weenie would combine the Mag brake arms & levers with Ti & aluminum hardware for a serious gram counter's brake setup.
