Can somebody break down the different categories and characteristics that go along with bikes in that category please (freeride, XC, dirt jump) . I am a fairly newby riding an old Trek 6000 hardtail, but looking to jump into a full suspension bike. I just have no idea how much travel i need. I live in florida so my riding involves "florida mounains" I do alot of trail riding with a pretty good mixture of terrain. From my limited reading i believe I will do best with a cross country bike so I am looking at the Specialized FSR XC for about $1100, with deore shifters LX front XT rear and v brakes. Any suggestions in the same price point (< $1500) that I should look at will be greatly appreciated.

The categories have been explained over and over, infact I saw one yesterday. Maybe if you did a search you might find something.
With the bike, perfect for XC riding, so are most hardtails in that area. If you were looking to take up Down Hill riding, look into FS.
