I have a crack in my Kikapu
I cracked my 2004 Kikapu today. I am not sure how I managed to do it, I don't jump, I don't drop, and I dont freeride on it. Seriously the bike has left the ground so few times it's rediculous. I was grabbing it from my rack after a ride today and I noticed a crack on the top tube near the seat tube. The crack goes about half way around the seat tube. I am pissed because I have no idea how this happened. I have crashed the bike a few times but nothing more than washouts or a few endos.
I have contacted the shop I bought it from via email about an hour ago. Is there anything else I need to do to start the warranty process? |
I have heard of this happening once before, to a sponsored rider for kona. Xc racer. He was told it happened due to alum fatigue+pedal torque. He felt it crack though, mid pedal. And it was older than a few years old, so I doubt this applies.
Just contact the shop they will help you with everything :) |
Kona will most likely warranty it for you. They warrantied a Stinky for me that was 4yr old. You could get lucky and have a new frame in a week or two but I have heard it can take longer. The frame will have to be stripped and your lbs will have to send it to Kona before you get a new one. Depending on how long it takes to ship will determin how long until you get a new one. Just a little side not, if there were any modifacations to the frame, ie drilling, welding, etc. they could say the warrany is void.

The only modifications I made were a seatpost, stem and tape to help stop cable rub.

Shouldn't be a problem at all.
