Need tire suggestions BADLY

okey,

Right now I am running Hutchinson Scorpions mearly because that's what happened to be around at the time of the build. During my ride yesterday, the tires slipped at the sight of ANY loose dirt. They just don't have aggressive enough tread it seems.
I ride in Colorado mostly and the terrain has lots of exposed boulders, loose sandy gravel, hardpack dirt and is just plain dry.
I checked Hutchinson's website and the Scorpions are for wet conditions.

Anyways, they are going on a set of CrossMax so I would probably prefer them to be UST. Weight is a mild concern because I will be racing so the new 'tubeless light' from Hutchinson looks interesting. However I'm also interested in these Nevegal or Blue Groove's, mostly because they have enjoyed alot of good press.
I am willing to take a weight penalty if it's worth it.
Any other suggestions?

oh, we are talking XC- aggressive XC

I would say check out the Nokian NBX XC Light (2.0 or 2.2) UST I have had many good rides with these tires and they work well for the conditions you ride in.

As for the other tires, I have not used them so I can give no feed back there.

I ride with a layer of sand over hardpack. The new Ritchy Excavaders Pro digs through the loose stuff and sticks very well. I switch to the Excavader WC for hardpack in the mountains. They wear faster (same tread) but they do a little better on damp dirt, roots and rocks. Not real light at 530 gms.

I ride Panaracer XC Pros. People say they are good, but I crashed pretty bad due to some loose gravel over hardpack dirt. Perhaps it was my problem in handling the bike rather than the tires' problem. Anyway, they look awesome.

They aren't popular around here for that reason. I remember a couple of years ago I was looking for a tire and I think those are what I was looking at (because of xc guys on this site) and every shop I went to didn't carry them for a variety of reasons. Maybe its the terrain but no one I know liked them

Which tires do you guys prefer in your area (whistler, right?)? I'm on the island and the terrain must be similar.
I am thinking about getting Hutchinson Spider UST tires. It has good reviews at mtbr, and it seems to be good at any terrain.

Hmmmm, loose gravel over hardpack would be pretty hard to get traction on, especially if you were going with any kind of speed. I'm sure a different better tire would help, but how much I'm not sure.

I just ordered those Velo's for 32 bucks at pricepoint. I hope they work good for my area, mostly dry and top soil dirt. I noticed today that my stock tires on my Trek 4500 were slipping too much in the front. Hopefully I get better results with the Velo combo.

I think you'll like 'em. They're a fairly aggressive knobby, and around here (SoCal) that's what we ride in; dry hard pack with loose crap on top. The price is right, isn't it? They delivered mine REALLY fast too.
