Well im wondering, with my light XC setup here what do you think is the maximum drop that could be done without worrying about breaking. I weigh around 130

Live a little, start off small, and work your way upto 2 - 3' over the summer. IMHO, the SID team will take alot more abuse then you would expect, what wheels are you running?

I dont think you would have a problem hitting a 3' drop, it all depends how you use your body to soak up the hit. If your new to drops, start small and practice soaking up the hit with your body. The gear is good for much more then you would think, i have had 18" of air under my fixed gear road bike... you would be surprised

First you complain because biers spend too much on their bikes now you're calling them ******* for not wanting to destroy somrething they put a lot of time, money, and pride into. His bike won't last doing that stuff. We all know that you are GOD on two wheels but if you understood things better, you'd realize how stupid you sound.

dang, what's with all the cussing? you'd think this was pinkbike... thank God for filters.
along the lines of what joe said, your bike should be able to handle the odd drop. a lot would depend on how strong your wheels are and also whether it's a drop to flat or if you've got a tranny to work with. drops to flat can be pretty brutal on the bike and the body, especially if you don't know how to soak up the impact on landing too well.

It all depends on how smooth you are and what the drop landing is like. If it is a harsh drop with a harsh rider, you could stuff it up at 1ft. If it is a hell smooth drop with hell smooth rider you could possibly go up to 5,6,10ft.

Good seeing joe on the dark side ...
I can't say much. The more I live here the more I meet some of the originals of west coast freeriding. If you are smooth, it can be done. Seriously, if you are smooth 3 to 5 ft will be 'butta'....I know guys riding fr trails (maybe not as fast as the dually) on full on xc race bikes doing every hit (up to 10 ft)...the limit is your skill+bike ~ breakage. Pretty random....try it, you might break it, but you might find out you ride like bender or dangerous dan.
